I'm not sure if I asked this before, but if you were going to take a meal to shut ins from your church, what do you usually bring them? Do you bring it frozen, cold or ready to eat?

I can't comment on shut-ins specifically but my wife and I have taken food to people recovering from surgery and to new parents.

We usually take something that's easy to deal with, so either hot and ready to eat or something that can be microwaved to make it ready. We also take it in containers we don't need returned. It's surprising how fast people can end up with an unmanageable stack of dishes if people are taking them meals regularly.

Did you use a container that could be microwaved? If so, where did you get the ones that won't melt?

We've typically used cheap disposable plastic containers and take food that's as ready to eat as we can manage. If it needs to be reheated you'd put it on a microwave-safe plate before heating it.

I've heard of some people buying cheap crockery from thrift stores so they won't need it back. It's not something you'd naturally think of but I remember when my mum was very sick people took food for her and my dad and as much as he appreciated not having to cook he did find it stressful having growing piles of dishes to store until people came to collect them.
