I've said this here before, but it bears repeating, especially if you are a westerner and aren't likely to have heard of this. In your first aid kit, in addition to bandages, disinfectant and the like, keep some turmeric.

Turmeric is amazing for sealing up cuts and healing wounds. I had a bad wound that would not heal with medicine and bandages (it would bleed every time I removed/replaced the bandage)...but after applying turmeric to the wound, it stopped bleeding and healed fast.

Interesting, I've read that turmeric in food is good for you but I forget how. It seems that herbs and spices have all sorts of properties beyond interesting flavors.
