Do you have a preferred hotel where you normally stay when you travel?

For me I prefer the Holiday Inn hotels and rarely have any problems when staying at one PLUS free breakfast!

I think for me it also depends on the nature of the trip.

Sometimes I just want a cheap place to lay my head, in which case the price is a major factor as long as it's not too near a busy road and has basic amenities. For one night I don't care about wifi or a breakfast buffet or executive gyms or anything else. I don't want a room next to the interstate because the noise would keep me awake.

If I want a special weekend away with my wife I'll book something a little nicer. How much nicer depends on the event and the budget I'm working with at the time. Several years ago we went to the Niagara Falls and booked the Presidential Suite at the Marriott. That was impressive.

It was something special, that's for sure. The funny thing was when I visited the exchange rate worked in my favor so the price of it was massively less than I expected. Not cheap by any means but nowhere near what I expected I'd have to pay for a suite like that.

Do you ever worry about bed bugs in some of the cheaper places? I ALWAYS check the mattress edges immediately upon entering the room.

Years agi I stayed in Best Western in Toronto. It was much cheaper than normal because of the church conference. Normally I don't go to a hotel. With the kids I take a holiday home or big caravan.
