I would not be interested in an obese person, for some of the same reasons Blaire puts so succinctly. Not only because of the inherent unhealth, but the attitudes that are likely to accompany it.

Edit: lol, I just realized "Blaire" is transgender. Ah well, being blind in one area doesn't necessarily limit a keen perception in others. Interesting that the same media she calls out (for promoting obesity) also promotes transgenderism.

I suspect a problem with "fat positive" is a sense of scale.

It's one thing to endlessly obsess that someone is a few pounds overweight, especially when there are many reasons why a widely adopted measure like the BMI is more or less useless in individual cases. That said there comes a point when it's really not doing anyone any favors to pretend that everything is just fine when they are facing a very real risk of premature wear of joints, heart problems, diabetes etc.

Sadly when medics focus heavily on BMI it's easy to see why some people push back against it, even if in their individual case they should be worried that their BMI is so high. If you're an athlete the chances are your BMI is going to suggest you are overweight simply because of the amount of extra muscle you are carrying. If you are so fat you wobble when you walk (assuming you actually do walk, rather than using a scooter to fetch your candy and soda from the store) the high BMI isn't a badge of honor.
