..again .. where the motive is "self" oriented is where the full measure of the reason and power in fasting with prayer is missed the most

Self is part of the motive for faith is it not? Do the holy scriptures not say "But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him." (Hebrews 11:6)

well its branching off topic but the seed of faith is given to all it does not originate in us .
