How is Faith obtained ?

It is obtained by Divine Spiritual Allotment.

2 Pet 1:1

Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:

The word obtained in the original is lagchanō :

  1. to obtain by lot
    1. to receive by divine allotment, obtain
  2. to cast lots, determine by lot

Its a Spiritual allotment because Faith is a fruit of the Spirit Gal 5:22

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 29

How is Faith obtained ?

It Faith is given in the sanctifying regenerating work of the Holy Spirit who is given to all for whom Christ died and redeemed, its part of their allotted Inheritance as so is the Spirit.

Eph 1:13-15

13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance
until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

The Holy Spirit of Promise is part of their inheritance. The word inheritance klēronomia

:

  1. an inheritance, property received (or to be received) by inheritance

  2. what is given to one as a possession

    1. the eternal blessedness of the consummated kingdom of God which is to be expected after the visible return of Christ
    2. the share which an individual will have in that eternal blessedness

And so when given the Spirit in its Sanctifying and renewing properties, they are given Faith/belief of the Truth 2 Thess 2:13

13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

No man by nature has this Faith, its a Gift of God the Spirit, Fruit of God the Spirit Gal 5:22

Faith, that kind that pleases God Heb 11:6 is the Gift of God to His Own Elect. It will be begotten in His Elect or Sheep of every age because, and its called the Faith of Gods Elect by one writer Titus 1:1

Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness;

They all are given Faith because they are Christ's Seed Isa 53:10

10 Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.

And Christ their Father Isa 9:6 is Gods Elect Isa 42:1 31

As Gods Elect Christ had Faith, He's the author of the believers Faith Heb 12:2

2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

One of the definitions for the word author is archégos:

originator, author, founder, prince, leader

Now in Isa 9:6 Jesus s called the everlasting Father:

6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. The word for Faher ab:

  1. head or founder of a household, group, family, or clan
  2. ancestor
    1. grandfather, forefathers — of person
    2. of people
  3. originator or patron of a class, profession, or art
  4. of producer, generator (fig.)

Christ's produces His seed to be a household of faith, which Abraham is a type in being the Father of the believers Rom 4:11

And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also:

    Gal 3:9

So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham. But now none was more Faithful than Christ Heb 3:2

Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house.

So Christs seed shall be faithful !

One of the great indicators of the apostasy of our times is that men have taken the prerogative of Faith in Salvation and have made it a work of the flesh, when in truth, Faith in Salvation, believing in Christ is the prerogative of God, His Work, this by Jesus own testimony Jn 6:29

Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

Paul writing to the Ephesians states that they believed according to the working of Gods mighty power Eph 1:19-20

9 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,

20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,

Paul attributes believing "according to the working of Gods mighty Power"

mans religion attributes believing to mans will. See how dishonoring this is to God and elevates man over God which is blasphemy. 31

More scripture that indicates that Faith is of the Power of God is in Rom 11 when God through Paul tells believing Gentiles they stand by Faith so dont boast Rom 11: 19-21

19 Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be grafted in.

20 Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear:

21 For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee.

Now later in the letter Paul writes that believers stand by Gods ability. Rom 14:4

Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand.

Now the word stand here and in Rom 11:20 are the same greek word histēmi and means:

to cause or make to stand, to place, put, set

And as it seen in Rom 14 they are caused to stand by Gods ability or dynatos power might, powerful

By Gods Power His servant are holden up in Faith

The Gentiles in Rom 11 could become high minded because they had been grafted into the tree and many jews had been broken off because of unbelief, because the only reason why they had faith to begin with was by Gods power, not a fathom freewill ! 32

Man's religion will deny that Faith is the result of the Power and Grace of God and will ignorantly attribute it to the natural will of man, not understanding nor accepting the fact that by nature men are in the power of unbelief Rom 11:32

32 For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all.

All men naturally God has made them prisoners of unbelief.

A prisoner is not free, man naturally isn't free to believe in or obey Jesus Christ ! 33

Faith is a Gift of God from His enabling one to believe by His Grace and Power, for instance, its just as much by the power and grace of God to believe on Christ as it is to suffer for His Name Sake Phil 1:29

29 For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake;

The Apostles in one instance were beaten for Christs sake and rejoiced about it Acts 5:40-41

40 And to him they agreed: and when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.

41 And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.

Remember Jesus had said in Matt 5:11

11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

Faith is a Gift of God from His enabling one to believe by His Grace and Power, because its given by God to repent and acknowledge the truth 2 Tim 2:25,26

25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;

26
And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

Man naturally has been taken captive, imprisoned by the devil from the acknowledging of the truth

The words " taken captive" are in the perfect tense, meaning :

action having been completed in the past, once and for all, with ongoing completed action

So the unbelief and imprisonment of the devil is completed and ongoing until such a time God in His Power and Grace gives release unto the acknowledging of the Truth.

But now mans prideful self centered religion tells us man can acknowledge and believe the truth by his own free will !

Since Faith is a Gift of God from His enabling one to believe by His Grace and Power, therefore Gods word tells us some will trust in Christs Name Rom 15:12

10 And again he saith, Rejoice, ye Gentiles, with his people.

11 And again, Praise the Lord, all ye Gentiles; and laud him, all ye people.

12 And again, Esaias saith, There shall be a root of Jesse, and he that shall rise to reign over the Gentiles; in him[Christ] shall the Gentiles trust.

The word trust here cant be done without Faith, its the same word hope here Heb 11:1

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. 33

Who are them that believe ?

Acts 11:17,21

Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?

And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord.

Acts 15:7

And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe.

Rom 3:22

Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:

Rom 4:11

And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also:

1 Cor 1:21

For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.

Now what religionist dont understand that its those that are described in Acts 13:48 who do believe:

48 And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.

Its as many as were [By God] ordained to eternal life who shall believe ! 34

Another scriptural concept as to who it is that believes, it is Christ Sheep. We gather this by Christs own words as to why some men dont believe Jn 10:26

26 But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you.

This lends us to understand that if men are of Christs Sheep [Elect] they would believe !

Jesus prayer in Jn 17 wasnt for the world in general Jn 17:9 but it was for believers and they which shall become believers Jn 17:20

20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;

Of course that would be #1 Christ's Sheep Jn 10:26 and #2 They which God preordained to eternal life Acts 13:48 34

If one becomes a true believer in the True Jesus Christ that died only to save His Sheep Jn 10, His Church Eph 5, or Gods Elect, then we owe it to the preordaining of God of us to eternal life Acts 13:48

And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.

We owe it to Gods Grace Acts 18.27

27 And when he was disposed to pass into Achaia, the brethren wrote, exhorting the disciples to receive him: who, when he was come, helped them much which had believed through grace:

We owe it to the Sovereign Sanctifying Work of the Holy Spirit 2 Thess 2:13

13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

All men aren't given the ability to believe on Christ, for God hides truth about Christ from them. Jesus indicates this a couple of times, when giving thanks to the Father saying Matt 11:25,26

25 At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes.

26 Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight.

This is according solely to Gods own good pleasure !

And again its indicated in Jesus own words Matt 13:10-11

10 And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables?

11 He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.

To them that are lost, the Gospel is hid 2 Cor 4:3

But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:

These will not be given Faith to believe in Christ through the Gospel, because they're lost ! 35

Its by Christ we do believe in God, the True God, for we read in 1 Pet 1:20-21

20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,

21Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.

So the Faith in God here Heb 11:6

6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

That Faith by or through, or because of Jesus Christ !

Why all men dont have Faith ?

2 Thess 3:2

And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all men have not faith.

Its because all men are not Christs Sheep Jn 10:26

26 But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you.

Why all men dont have Faith ?

We have already pointed out one reason why all men dont have Faith/Believe, yet another reason is because not all men are the Beloved of the Lord, Chosen from the beginning unto Salvation through Sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth 2 Thess 2:13

13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

The word belief here is the same noun faith in 2 Thess 3:2

So all men dont have belief of the truth because they're not Christ sheep and they are not of those "the Beloved of the Lord, Chosen from the beginning unto Salvation through Sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth" 35
