I'm not surprised. It will be interesting to see if he is charged with any crimes and how that might impact his candidacy. Either by the legal system in Georgia, New York or the Justice Department
Offhand, I'd guess that only if he's convicted of something will it ruin his candidacy.
Trump's popularity was on the wane
before the rush of activity began on the part of Biden's FBI and Department of Justice, and also State Attorneys General, with the ransacking the ex-president's home, getting his tax returns, appointing a loyal Democrat to be a special prosecutor to try to find anything on which to bring charges against Trump, and other such moves typical of any "Banana Republic."
Then his popularity rose, according to the polls.
It has been suggested that this owes to his base expanding from diehard Trump supporters to include other people who are usually somewhere in the middle but are now horrified that the government in power is set upon using police power to get rid of challengers, including the former president, and do it before the 2024 election campaign begins in earnest and the harassment of Trump looks all too obvious.
