Some people have hardships and they set up GoFundMe accounts to help with their financial burdens. Do you give to GoFundMe or do you give to those in other ways instead?

I find it hard to determine which plea for help is legitimate and which is just a scam money making scheme.

This is my thinking too. If I know someone or a situation I can make an informed decision whether and how to help - sometimes the best help isn't necessarily cash. If I don't know a situation there's no way to know whether someone really found themselves chained to a dead elephant for 17 years or if they're just figuring that asking strangers for handouts is easier than working.

New Zealand has a more popular alternative called Givealittle and I give where I can. I tend to give a lot more of my money to animal charities.
