It has much to do with God's sovereignty. Not one thing ever happens outside of the ordained will of God. No spirit randomly roams the earth. Each leaf that falls, each ant that moves does so by God's ordained will.
Do you really believe that God ordains a former slave to walk on the earth in a wraith form? What scripture would you use to present this as a reality?
Yes, God's Sovereignty has much to do with this conversation.
Well it was something, I do believe in demons appearing as familiar spirits.

I don't disagree with demonic appearances nor with angelic appearances. In both cases they appear only by God’s ordained allowance.
God does give people over to their own desires, which invites demonic activity within a rebel heart.
The scriptures share that we may entertain angels in certain circumstances.

Thanks everyone!

My OWN personal opinion is that there are no "ghosts" in the usual sense. IMO, souls IMMEDIATELY go to heaven or hell - and don't stick around (temporarily or permanently).

BUT I think angels and demons exists. And I think that demons can be up to no good and can "appear" to us. They may not have us as a target but they would not be good houseguests. IMO, SOME of the supposed "ghost" things are angels (if good) or demons.

MY area is physics and not psychology but my Psych prof told us that when some people grieve, their psyche and memory CAN - at times - produce "voices" and "visions" of their beloved. There are - he said - many cases of people reporting this. HE claimed this may well be the origin in every culture of "ghosts." But this is a psychological thing. All cultures do have this.... the Romans especially held to such.

IMO, the mention with Samuel is either that a demon appeared or he THOUGHT something that wasn't actually true. I don't think Jesus' comment to Thomas was an affirmation that Ghosts DO exist, only affirming his physical reality.

BUT I know many do accept the reality of ghosts. Including Christians. I find that interesting!

Ghosts are not real, according to this Scripture:

Ecclesiastes 9:5-6

It is also not true that we "immediately" go to heaven or hell. Else this could not be true:

John 6:39, 6:40, 6:44, 6:54, 12:48

The "last day" doesn't mean "the last day of your life" - it means the day of judgement. Everyone is raised - some to go to heaven and others to be destroyed forever at the second death. Rev 2:11, 20:6, 20:14, 21:8
