Do you believe Christians ought to practice their 2nd amendment rights by owning assault weapons?

Is this thread about the Amish beliefs then or about assault rifles? I guess I'm confused why this tangent happened.

Yea, I was curious if anyone else thinks Christians ought to own these weapons and defend themselves. Or should we be like the Amish and just rely on someone else to do all the heavy lifting?

Well, don’t the Amish want to follow Paul’s example, and desire everyone to be saved?
And don’t the Amish believe that repentance and obedience to the Lord is necessary for salvation?
And don’t they believe that those who engage in warfare are being disobedient, therefore not saved, and therefore not going to heaven?

AS to what "the Amish" believe the chances are there are differences between them. You know, like there are differences within any other group of people.

I'm still not sure what this has to do with Christians owning assault rifles, whatever that term means in this context.

Are you talking about people defending themselves or defending others?

You keep coming back to the Amish and the idea of the army but still never really addressed how it's any less selfish to enjoy the protection of the fire company if you're not willing to run into a burning building yourself.

As a Christian I don't mind if people own guns. Most of the people I know who own guns are extremely responsible.

I also know people who are against having guns and they are very caring people.

As for the Amish and not serving in the military, perhaps it's a time to bring up vocations and how we all don't have the same call from God for all vocations. As @tango mentioned about firefighters, there's no way I could ever sign up for that vocation but I surely appreciated that someone will help me out in my time of need.

Just out of curiosity, do non-Amish people who don't sign up for the military also count as selfish?

A US Supreme Court decision ruled that Americans have a right to own guns for self
defense. However, self defense was not the founding fathers' intention.

The second Amendment provides for an armed militia; which are not professional
soldiers, rather, citizen soldiers, e.g. minute men.

Minute men were not intended to be armed with government weapons; rather,
privately owned weapons that they can grab in a moments' notice, and those
weapons have to be suitable for warfare in the event it becomes necessary to
defend America from foreign invasion, e.g. the American Revolutionary War.

Well; if China or Russia should decide to invade America; they won't do so with
shotguns and deer rifles. Professional soldiers will be coming here equipped with
large capacity AK-47's, semi automatic handguns, rocket launchers, mortars, tanks,
artillery, helicopter gunships, and high tech jet aircraft.

Our minute men would be slaughtered should they attempt to defend us without
weapons comparable to theirs.

NOTE: Assault style rifles are not the same as real assault rifles. Assault style rifles
are not fully automatic; they're semi automatic, i.e. in order to make an assault
style rifle fire successive shots, its trigger must be pulled each time; viz: one pull,
one shot.

No. But I do think Christians, if they so desire to exercise their second amendment rights, should buy whatever guns they please. Doesn't have to be an assault weapon. Can be a pistol or a revolver, shotgun, AR-15, whatever.

Assault rifle defined here:

Some Christian groups like Anabaptist, Mennonite, and Amish believe in “non-resistance” where they don’t fight back if someone attacks them, and they won’t volunteer to join the army.

Your post has NOTHING to do with the thread; see the title you yourself gave to the thread, the topic you indicated is to be discussed.

As far as I know, Anabaptists do not believe that owning a gun is a sin or believe that the Second Amendment of the US Constitution is to be violated.

I think it is up to every individual Christian to follow their personal convictions on owning a weapon. There is no Biblical mandate either way.
