Men don't get condemned for aging as much as women do. Women are pretty much told throughout their lives that if there are signs of aging they need to reverse them NOW. :yikes:

So do men really age better or is that a bunch of garbage?

It's not that they age better but I think women are more focused on with their aging. All the wrinkle creams on tv show women aging.

I'm six years older than my wife. I was six years older when we married. I think we are aging the same.

Do you think that women do this because of other women judging or because men are preferring younger women?

Women age. Men become "distinguished". Women are only pretty when they are young and perky. Men become "distinguished". Women get fat. Men fill out. Women go through "mentalpause" and get cranky. Men have a "crisis".

Any differences between men and women aging is socially conditioned.

Both. Plus many women are self concious of their aging.

I don't think you can apply a generalisation like that either way.

I can see that women are expected to look young while men aren't but that's nothing to do with who ages better.

People say that wrinkles on a woman make her look old but apparently the same wrinkles on a man make him "distinguished". Which is stupid really, it's the same kind of reasoning that regards a man who sleeps with lots of women as a "stud" but a woman who sleeps with lots of men as a "****".

Truth be told I've seen women in their 60s and 70s who were remarkably glamorous, and women in their 20s who obviously wore so much makeup they must have used a trowel to apply it. Likewise I've seen men in their 30s who looked old and washed out, and men in their 80s who were still very youthful.

Ehhh, maybe. Both my parents are aging gracefully.

Women are only pretty when they are young and perky.
Says who? ;)
Men become "distinguished". Women get fat. Men fill out.
I can't see my toes when I stand and look down, so..... :/
Women go through "mentalpause" and get cranky. Men have a "crisis".
"Crises" :D

"Conditioning" of any kind would be good for me right now.

(p.s. - Everyone remember to sing "Happy Birthday" to V.G. on Monday! :fest06:)

Your dad is very distinguished and your mom is still young at heart.

Says who?
Are you saying I'm not young and perky? (careful here, I'm perimenopausal...lol)

I can't see my toes when I stand and look down, so..... :/
I can't either. I am fat; you are well filled out. :)

"Conditioning" of any kind would be good for me right now.
Well, you did come with me on my walk around the duck pond today, so... :cheer2:

Hmm... I have never dyed my hair. Maybe it's time to start bucking against the age and go to the salon...

I am a man and what valleygal said is GENERALLY true!

One GENERAL advantage that women have is that they live longer; however, that is starting to change.

Correction - what VG says is always true (repeat after me...:) )

Interesting. I'll have to look into that a bit. I'd no idea that was making a shift.

This is the year of my 50th birthday (surprised you, didn't I?) I don't look or act 50 and people at work are really shocked when I tell them. I don't hide my age (except on here, not sure what my original intention was?). I'm not embarrassed by it and I think it's funny when I see the looks on their faces. My husband is aging gracefully too. Last week I told a lady in her low 30s that I will be spending time with my daughter who graduated college and she said, "What? I can't believe it? You can't have a daughter that old. I thought you and ____ were newlyweds!"

Women CAN age better than men. Stay out of the sun. Don't smoke. Don't drink, except for water LOL and get plenty of rest. Hydrate the skin. Those are my beauty tips.

Now you have anti wrinkle creams for men too. As long as they can make money.
So happy I don't use that nonsense anymore. I got the idea it only gave more wrinkles. Maybe that's why men age better lol.

For men it doesn't matter. Women always have to look like 18. Well that's how it was. Now men use botox too. My mother complained that she looked so old. She had wrinkles and her feet were thick and her hair was getting grey.
Mom you're 81. You don't have to look like 18 anymore LOL.

I've never condemned, nor witnessed anyone else condemn any woman for aging. Perhaps it is media emphasis and targeting that you are referring to?

"Men aging better" - yes, it's garbage. It's all in how you live life and what your habits are. There's a guy in my area who can't be much into his 40's, if that - but his face is so wrinkled I wonder if he has ever become acquainted with adequate doses of Vitamin C and enough water.

Speaking of which - some of my habits need to improve.
