1:24 And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen,

1:25 That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place.

1:26 And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

These passages tell of the Apostles replacing the position of Judas.
In verse 25 "that he might go to his own place" has generated various interpretations. The "he" is usually interpreted to be speaking of Judas. I think it may well be that the "he" might be referring to the apostle under consideration to replace Judas. That the newly chosen apostle, Matthias, might go to his own place in the ministry, replacing Judas.

It does say in the bible that he did go to his own place. The question is where did he come from? When talking to Peter Jesus said in one moment all was given into his hands (Jew and Gentile inauguration) and the next to get behind him. That was the influence of the spirit behind mankind. But Judas had that spirit within him. Possession is 9/10ths of the law.

"His own place" most likely is not a reference to a place in the afterlife created just for him alone, not Hell or Heaven or Limbo or Paradise, etc.

A number of modern language translations render it "to where he belongs" and just about all translations make it clear that the reference is to Judas, not Matthias.
