I didn't watch the debates but I saw clips of comedians making fun of the candidates. I think it's a shame that everything these days has to be made fun of.

My question is this...it seems like there are a lot of candidates, is that the usual amount?

The fight for Party nomination is vastly different from the fight for being President.
To win Party nomination you must appeal to the far left progressives who love their AOC and Ilhan Omar, those folks who would economically castrate the US in the name of democratic socialism.
To win the Presidency you have to appeal to the center, which does not support democratic socialism.
Amy Klobuchar is a center-left candidate, but she may not be far enough left to win nomination. Being she is from Minnesota, I am familiar with her. She's kind of a throwback to Walter Mondale and Hubert Humphrey. She's got a lot of common sense, but she still can't let go of supporting abortion. (No Democrat can) In my thinking, she is the least left-leaning of all the candidate's and could likely win over Donald Trump. She is tenacious with a smile, where as Trump is tenacious with a grimace.

In England we had a TV show called Spitting Image, featuring rubber puppets that caricatured and lampooned public figures of the day. I'd love to see their takes on politics. They'd have a field day with the Clintons, with Trump, with AOC. I really wish they were still going.

No, I don't think it is typically and quite frankly won't last much longer. The money will start running out soon with some of the candidates that didn't do well in the last two debates.
