John 19:17-22, Daniel 6.
I have written what I have written.
Under the influence of his advisors, King Darius signed a decree that he could not change. Because of that decree, Daniel was cast into the lions’ den and into the hands of his God. In the morning, God had delivered him. Under the influence of the Pharisees, Pontius Pilate delivered Jesus to the cross and into the hands of God. Pontius Pilate wrote out his judgment and refused to change it: “The King of the Jews.” In the morning, a few days later, God delivered Jesus from the pit of death.

John 19:1-16, Isaiah 53.
Behold the Man.
Pilate sought to satisfy the bloodlust of the Pharisees by having Jesus tortured. In doing so, he administered the wrath of God against all men, born by the innocent Christ. Again he tried to release Jesus. But the guilty cried out for his blood, and he became their guilt offering. Jesus confessed to Pilate that Pilate’s authority only came by Jesus’ assent. And Pilate confessed, “Behold, your king.”

The Truth of God.
John 18:28-40, I Kings 17.
Elijah proved that God’s Word was true by raising the widow’s son to life. Jesus bore witness of the truth. That witness would lead to his death. But he proved the truth by his resurrection.

Betrayed by Those Close.
King David was betrayed by his son, his priest and his general. Peter was Jesus’ brother, his chosen bishop and the leader of the disciples. David was betrayed by three. Jesus was betrayed three times by the one.

The Power of I AM.
The great I AM declares that if He draws the sword, nothing can withstand his might. Jesus demonstrated that He had the same power, when he said His sacred name (“I am”) and those who came to take Him fell before His power. But Jesus chose to sheath the sword and drink the cup of God’s wrath in our place.

John 17:9-26, Exodus 24:1-11.

Father, Make Them One.
When Israel came out of Egypt, they were still twelve families. God instructed the seventy elders of the families to come together before him. He told Moses to build a single altar of twelve stones (representing those twelve families). In the end, they sat together for a covenant meal. The imperfect unity of the nation of Israel is reflected in Jesus prayer. Just as he had called the twelve to be one ministry, and had sat down and had a covenant meal with all twelve (though one was to break unity), he now prayed for unity among the believers. But the unity he prayed for was to be far greater than the unity of Israel. It was to reflect the unity of will and purpose that existed between Jesus and the Father.

Father, Glorify Yourself.
God promised to glorify Himself in Israel, through His Servant whom God formed in the womb. Jesus fulfilled that prophecy, by glorifying God by bringing salvation to Israel. And Jesus Himself was glorified by being manifested in the world.

John 16:25-33, Exodus 3:22.

By Whose Authority?
Moses asked by whose authority he was to approach the children of Israel. He knew that if he had the name of God as his seal, the people of Israel would listen to him. Jesus taught his disciples to approach God by the authority of Jesus name. He knew that just as he had overcome the world, the disciples would overcome the world by Jesus’ authority. He knew that the Father would honor his name on behalf of those who believed in him.

John 16:1-24, I Kings 8.

Will God be With His People? Solomon stood before God and pleaded for Him to be with His people in all they endeavored, with both judgment and grace. Jesus promised that God would never leave them alone, that when he was gone, God would send his Spirit. And Jesus himself would be with them, through that same Spirit.

The Good Shepherd.
“The Lord is my shepherd.” Few words in scripture are better known that these. The image of our Lord caring for us, leading us, and protecting us brings great comfort.
Jesus said “I am the good shepherd.” He longs for you to be gathered into His flock, into His loving care. His role as the shepherd extends even to laying down his life.
Whatever shadow falls upon your heart, he is walking beside you.

James 2:14-16

14 What use is it, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but he has no works? Can that faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is without clothing and in need of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and be filled,” and yet you do not give them what is necessary for their body, what use is that?
What if the "him" in "can faith save him" is not the one who has faith without works, but the brother in need. Consider the preceding verse: For judgment will be merciless to one who has shown no mercy; mercy triumphs over judgment.
Consider this: that the one who is not willing to minister to the needs of "he who needs mercy" is not qualified to pray for him.

And it came about when the LORD was about to take up Elijah by a whirlwind to heaven, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal.

Psalm 34:17-18 ESV

When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.

Philippians 4:6

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

So we must listen very carefully to the truth we have heard, or we may drift away from it.
