Did anyone watch the game? My husband stayed up until 1AM and he had to start getting ready for work at 5AM! Yikes.

I looked at an article of some of the other celebrities that were at the game and I doubt I'd recognize most of them if I were seated next to them! LOL

I watched all 7 games..... Probably the best World Series I've ever seen.... and yup, I cheered for the Cubs so I'm pleased with the outcome, but no matter what, both teams played awesome baseball in great games. A lot of the players are young (especially on the Cubs team) so don't be surprised if one or both of these teams are in the world series next year....

But it isn't a world series :smirk:

But the Spalding Guide -- which, after all, was published by one of the world's largest sporting goods companies, with a vested interest in bringing baseball to other lands -- had grander ambitions. By 1890, the Spalding Guide was explaining that "[t]he base ball championship of the United States necessarily includes that of the entire world, though the time will come when Australia will step in as a rival, and after that country will come Great Britain; but all that is for the future."

This didn't happen, but the name "World's Championship Series" stuck.

It appears that there was hope for the world to participate. Maybe you guys weren't good enough? :birgits_giggle:

We're from the Chicago area so this is huge for us! Most of my friends on Facebook had something in their feeds this morning about the Win!

Actually, we let the Canadians play.... When the first Canadian team became a major league team, that's when they started calling it the "WORLD's series" but it was only USA and Canada, hardly the whole world.... Right now, there's only one Major League team in Canada, however (the Toronto Blue Jays - twice World Series Champs).

Of course, baseball is played in many other nations; it's huge in many Caribbean and Latin American nations, in Japan, in South Korea, in Italy and elsewhere. Until recently, it was in the Summer Olympics. There have been International tournaments but I think those organizations are all defunct now. So yeah, there is no international playoff.

Side note that for LITTLE League, it really is very international. And the Little League World Series reveals that.

That's all nice and dandy, but much more important is that Ajax just won with 3 - 2.

5,000,000 people attended the parade in Chicago!

NO THANK YOU! I hate crowds! I saw the pictures posted by family and friends and it looked just awful to me!

Would any of you attend such an event?

I went to see the parade when the Bears won the Superbowl in 1985 but went with friends from art school who knew their way around the city and crowds. WHew
