I soaked my beans for over 6 hours and now they're in the pot and it's been an hour and they aren't getting tender yet. How long does it take? The recipe said an hour and a half.

It may depend on the bean. Whatever legumes I prepare (from dry) I soak overnight, so between 8-12 hours, drain, then add just enough water to cook them (don't want to over-saturate, as some nutrients lost in water). To save me doing this multiple times a week, I usually do it in fairly large batches then freeze the cooked beans for later consumption.

My soup turned out great!! After the first hour and a half I grew concerned, but after 2 hours they suddenly were perfect and I turned the flame off. My homemade cornbread wasn't fully cooked in the middle though, and I had to put it back in the oven for another 7 minutes!!

Ham and bean soup with cornbread. That's what's for dinner tonight and tomorrow night. Yum. I haven't made this before and I grew up eating it and remember my mom making it in the winter.
