Consider resetting your passwords if you use the same one on other sites

If you're using the same password for other sites, you might want to consider changing your password here.

I have a friend who has an add on for spam and there is a thread on the Xenforo site where people are discussing spammers hacking into old accounts that haven't been used for a while and posting spam. So if you have an old account on other forums, you might be at risk here if you're using the same password.

Our system has NOT been compromised here and we haven't had any issues yet. So let's make the place safe and change your passwords to keep us clean :)

My friend also suggested locking old accounts here and that's something I'll discuss with the owner.

Thanks!

I have a suggestion that if people implement makes all this unnecessary.

Get a good encryption program. You open this with a password only you know and can be easily remembered.

When you sign up to a service, website etc, open a file and digitally record the website, your email and password for it. You don't need to
remember this password, so it can be complicated/unmemorable.

Save the file you wrote within the encrypted program.

Now when you want to log in to a website, open your encryption program with your easily remembered password, go to the file you need for that website, open it and copy/paste the information for log in.

---

The benefit of this system is that you only need to remember your master pass for the encryption program. The passwords you come up with for websites and such can be literally anything that can be near impossible to guess. No need for password managers, having browsers remember passwords etc, all of which depend on your trust in them.

You could try a VPN, but it would not protect you from a hacker gaining access to unencrypted passwords on another site.
