Apparently many of the looters in Philadelphia weren't associated with the protests at all. Hey, might as well snag some free stuff, right?

My sister-in-law is an editor for a big city newspaper and blames Trump for the media getting hurt at the riots because of "fake media". She doesn't understand that the media tries to keep people in fear so they can sell their news and people are sick of it.

Today I went to the grocery store and the hoarding is back in progress with signs limiting items once again.

If states had fully opened do you think half of those people would have been out there inciting riots and looting? I'm not talking about the true protestors. I'm talking about the people choosing to commit criminal acts.

It is interesting to see the sequence of an extended lockdown that appears to have been hugely overdone, denying people the chance to live their lives and feeding them fear every second of every hour of every day, then a trigger event that has prompted near universal backlash but still provides a trigger for rioting.

If I recall, after the Rodney King incident the riots started when the cops involved were acquitted. In this one the cops have been charged with murder and even before they face trial the extremists are trashing everything in sight.

Usually I enjoy conspiracy theories as a source of light entertainment but the way things are playing out I'm really starting to wonder what is behind it all. It all just seems far too convenient, especially when the media that previously claimed the very act of stepping outside your front door was practically equivalent to mass murder now doesn't seem to care about the spread of the virus.

On another note, I'm curious to see how "when the looting starts, the shooting starts" is considered to be inciting violence. I'd have said it was just a good old-fashioned warning that looters are likely to find themselves getting used for target practise. It wouldn't be the first time property owners have defended themselves or their businesses with force.

Maybe there's a reason the rioters haven't strayed far from the big cities, because they know what's going to happen to them if they try and trash more rural areas. You know, the areas that are used to being self-sufficient because the police are half an hour or more away at best.
