I've had some Vanilla Porter beer tonight and it is pretty potent. I've had to spell check it is so potent!

Geeky version of the "night before Christmas" poem:

Twas the night before implementation and all through the house,
Not a program was working, not even a mouse.
The programmers hung by their tubes in despair,
with hopes that a miracle would soon be there.
The users were nestled all snug in their beds,
while visions of inquiries danced in their heads.
When out in the computer room there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my desk to see what was the matter.
And what to my wondering eyes should appear,
but a super programmer with a six-pack of beer.
His resume glowed with experience so rare,
He turned out great code with a bit-pusher's flair.
More rapid than eagles, his programs they came,
and he cursed and muttered and called them by name.
On update! On add! On inquiry! On delete!
On batch jobs! On closing! On fuctions complete!
His eyes were glazed over, fingers nimble and lean,
from weekends and nights in front of the screen.
A wink of his eye, and a twitch of his head,
soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
turning specs into code, then turned with a jerk.
And laying his fingers upon the "ENTER" key,
the system came up and worked pefectly.
The updates updated, the deletes they deleted,
the inquires inquired, and closings completed.
He tested each whistle, and tested each bell,
with nary an abend, and all had gone well.
The system was finished, the tests were concluded,
the users' last changes were even included.
And the user exclaimed with a snarl and a taunt,
"It's just what I asked for, but not what I want!"

Thank you. That's funny!!

Another poem for y'all:

The Oxen - Poem by Thomas Hardy

Christmas Eve, and twelve of the clock.
"Now they are all on their knees,"
An elder said as we sat in a flock
By the embers in hearthside ease.

We pictured the meek mild creatures where
They dwelt in their strawy pen,
Nor did it occur to one of us there
To doubt they were kneeling then.

So fair a fancy few would weave
In these years! Yet, I feel,
If someone said on Christmas Eve,
"Come; see the oxen kneel

"In the lonely barton by yonder coomb
Our childhood used to know,"
I should go with him in the gloom,
Hoping it might be so.
The Oxen

Hi everyone. I have taken down my Thanksgiving decorations. My house looks plain. I may start my Christmas decorations today.

I just have a small tree so far. Thinking of going to Wal Mart and getting a big tree and decorations. I see so many have done it already.

I don't have a tree to put up. When my children were home, I always did a tree. But, since they are grown and gone, I don't do a tree anymore.

I live all alone with my pets. I haven't put a tree up in ages. A friend of mine brought me a very small tree and it made me want a bigger one. lol

We have a small artificial tree - which hasn't been put up yet.

When I was a kid, we'll all go some distance to a tree farm and cut down a real tree.... I have GREAT childhood memories of that....

A blessed Advent to all

I tried a java porter a few months back and really liked that. If you like dark beers try Stone's Coffee Milk Stout.

It sounds tempting to say the least!

Definitely worth making. It's the sort of thing you brew up in a big pot on a gentle heat, then use a ladle or similar the way you would with a punch bowl.

Last time I made it was at a friend's house last Christmas. Our house was most of the way through major renovation so had little furniture and lots of other hazards (missing floors, electrical switches hanging from wires etc) so we couldn't host it ourselves. We still had the usual crowd of friends around and it was as well received as ever, especially since it was a farewell bash for us because we were moving away from the area.

I'm writing the name down now. Thanks for the tip!
