I've often thought a cool thing to do would be to host something like Big Brother, where the contestants enter the house amidst much fanfare. Then they are ignored, someone is selected at random each week to be evicted and emerge from the house, via some kind of airlock equivalent so news can't get back into the house, to find.... nothing. No fans, no camera crew, nothing. That's when they find out the whole thing was a farce, it wasn't televised, and nobody was watching them at all. Then they can forget their dreams of temporary grandeur and go back to their former lives.
