I do not have back pain but I do know someone who has it and I was wondering what worked for you to help ease the pain?

Depends what location the back pain is in and if a specific action brought it on.

Pain in that area is usually caused by muscle spasms, that can cause quite a bit of pain. Usually, an area of muscle has gotten very tight and needs to be stimulated with stretching and or strong massage to break up the area, to allow blood flow to come in to promote healing.

Many times, the cause is; bad posture, stress and or simply muscle imbalances or lack of flexibility. Heat helps as well, to loosen up the area and anti inflamatory medications.

I always suffered from terrible lower back pain, until I figured out that my spine wasn't align while I slept. I started sleeping with a pillow under my knees, which kept my neck/spine straight and I never had lower back pain (as a result of the way I was sleeping) again.

Just about everyone has back pain at some point in their life and it is usually caused by bad posture, muscle imbalances (weak abs), excessive weight being carried and just simply, being in poor physical condition.
