In the 1980s and 1990s there was a battle between Atari and Commodore (with the Amiga). In the end the Amiga won but Commodore was poorly managed so they went bankrupt and so did Atari. But the Atari ST and Commodore Amiga were interesting machines.

We had the Atari 5200 and loved it! I had guys over at the house playing all the time. They came to challenge my mom's scores. Not to see me

I had an Amiga way back and I gave it to a chap in 2000 or 2001, not sure what happened to it, he may have sold it in a garage sale. I don't miss it. No nostalgia about it, but the history was interesting. The Amiga and Atari ST were both way better that the Apple Mac and the PC in the late 1980s. After that Intel began to win the chip wars and made faster and cheaper chips than did Motorola (the Mac, Amiga, and Atari ST were all based on the 68000 series chips from Motorola) so PC and eventually Apple went with Intel and now we are living in the Intel world ... I wonder if an alternative universe exists where Motorola won ...

5200? You progressive heathen you :p

I still have an old Atari 2600 console. I just don't have a way to connect it to my TV.

We had a Telestar before my dad bought the Atari. I hated the Telestar. So boring watching that little ball go back and forth across the screen.

I remember those things. The first time I saw it, it was when I happened to notice the TV screen through a neighbor's window, and I wondered why I couldn't find the channel they were watching (back in the day there were only three channels, so it didn't take long to search). The first time I got to plug an Atari 2600 into - get this - a COLOR television set it was like my universe expanded before my very eyes.

Somehow I was spared the ordeal of a Sinclair computer and instead got to argue endlessly with a friend over whether an Apple or a BBC micro was the better machine. Not surprisingly we both insisted the one we had was better than the other...

I only know Atari from the song they had at my sister's wedding 28 years ago, since her husband was a fan of Atari.
