Forgiving is "healing", yet it is only possible through the grace of God, for only He can empower our hearts and minds to do something so utterly foreign to our natural tendencies.

Forgiveness is "freeing" for not only the one being forgiven, but for the one doing the forgiving.

yeah, forgiveness is really forgiveness only if we "mean it" and not if it's forced without the grace that God gives in all of it.

Genuine forgiveness alleviates oooogly thoughts from cropping up later and we gets angry all over again, and we're back to square one.

Only God can make genuine forgiveness possible.

True I struggled with this at one time and it was only God that allowed me to finally let go

Same here. It was "torturous" when i "forgave" in my own strength. It was a roller coaster ride the likes of i never EVER wanna ride again. There was no closure, and my understanding of genuine forgiveness was "skewed".

It was INSANE.

Thank God for His grace.

This would be an EXCELLENT study....there is SOOOO much mis-understanding about forgiveness.....

when genuine and true forgiveness occurs, there is "peace".

I think a lot of people have a hard time asking for forgiveness because doing so requires genuine humility, and showing humility leaves one open and vulnerable. We are so intent on guarding our hearts that it becomes too hard to express the sorrow and shame that accompany humility. Part of this is that we do not set a supportive stage for the "forgiveness exchange" to occur, and fear of rejection and further shame prevent us from making ourselves vulnerable. And of course, we know that perfect love casts out fear, which means we are not operating in love when we do not reach out and ask forgiveness. This is why the love of the Lord Jesus - the love that motivated him to the cross - must be our motivating factor in giving and asking for forgiveness. Love for God first, because we desire to obey him by reconciling our relationships, and love for our neighbour that we have offended second.

When we are reluctant to ask someone to forgive us, we need to search our heart to see the fear that is operating, and then pray that Jesus' love would replace that fear and humility would replace our pride.

Sometimes when I ask for forgiveness I feel like throwing up because I don't know if it will be accepted :( I know I don't deserve it and forgiveness is always a gift.

It really depends on the person.

I'm more forgiving now than I once was, but depending on how well I expect the request to be received, I can sometimes take longer.

A lot of people misunderstand that the appeal to forgiveness is not an advantage or opportunity for one to pounce from the high ground on the person humbling themselves.

It's one of the more simple and yet most overlooked examples in which we can exalt and exude Christ and Christ-likeness.
