We got home yesterday after a 12 hour drive so tonight I'll be missing the Ash Wednesday service at church (I'm wiped out). Do you prefer your ashes on your forehead or hand? Please don't turn this thread into whether Ash Wednesday is biblical or not. Which hymns will you sing tonight?

We don't do an Ash Wednesday service so not something I've ever really had to consider.

I have no idea what we're going to sing. I've always gotten my ashes on my forehead. I do know that by God's grace, we will have the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper tonight and that is really what excites me more than anything.

Forehead....

The ASHES symbolizing what is true - my sin, my mortality, my repentance.
The CROSS symbolizing what is true - the Gifts of Baptism, the Savior, faith and thus forgiveness.

The ASHES - the Law
The CROSS - the Gospel

The ASHES - death deserved
The CROSS - eternal life given.

Of course, the service also included the Eucharist, as is most appropriate and appreciated.
