USA Are Taxes Un-Fair?

Are taxes fair do you think? I don't mind paying my fair share and understand the fiscal responsibility of the people to help the country and communities out. But are they fair about it? I would venture to say no, they are not fair about it.

Government revenue is income received from taxes and other sources to pay for government expenditures. The U.S. government has collected $4.01 trillion in fiscal year 2025. Every dollar of that is from the US citizens.

Now I'm retired so have very little to do with paying taxes to the government at least, lol. But the lst time I looked this up, it was just under 1 Billion dollars, and I was in awe of that. A billion dollars is a "Lot" of money. Remember the Breaking bad scene where he had 80 million dollars stacked up in a storage unit. That's a lot less than a billion dollars! I bet most people would have trouble visualizing a Billion dollars. It's an awe inspiring amount of money. So I looked it up again today, knowing that it would be higher because everything went up.

4 Trillion dollars? That's absurd. It is so much more than 1 billion dollars, that the absurdity is plain. They don't need that much money! They must be trying to keep us poor.

Word on the street is, they have a digital currency all ready to implement. If they succeed in converting the US into a digital currency then we prolly wont even have to file taxes anymore because 100% control of our money will be in the govt's hands already. SO all we have to do when we get paid is check hw many govt food stamps they let us keep to feed our family with.

An entire nation on food stamps. Public assistance. Tried to buy a gun and your card got denied? Tried it 18 times and it's denied? I know the money is in there! What do I do? Oh, the Govt. has an 800 number where you can call up and talk to a computer for 45 minutes and never did get a human on the line. computer glitch? 6-8 weeks? Maybe they just didn't want me to buy a gun? Inappropriate purchase for your spending habits da da da. I can see it all coming.

This entire nation better stand up and resist the digital currency when they roll it out.

Someone needs to come up with a definition of 'fair' that everyone can agree on.

Otherwise everyone will decide fair or unfair according to his own mind, his view being the righteous one and everyone that has a different view being the unrighteous.

Why would anyone try again after the first time being denied one, they're readily available on the street and you don't need some kind of card for them, they're usually cheaper there too.

I think it's impossible to say what "fair" is but I would venture to say the way they are set up right now, no, they're not fair. Government workers are generally wealthier than they should be, and money gets wasted and isn't regulated the way it should be. There are programs and things out there that take a lot of money but aren't regulated. For example, one program that gives poor college kids money doesn't regulate how the money is spent. I know some kids who get free money from the government (Pell grant and such) that they use on buying video games instead of educational materials or educational housing or whatever. So it's stuff like that that makes taxes unfair. We end up working hard and paying taxes only for others to run out and live a better life than we do on our dime.

You say the card don't work, she says try anyway, and lo and behold, it works for TP! With the implication being that they will have control over what you buy.

Well, I would think Federal.

But other taxes could be refined. For instance, my home is paid off completely. My kids have been long out of school. Why should I have to continue to pay property taxes? It's paid off. When do I get to own it?

They're going to try to make it impossible for private transactions to occur. They'll do that by devaluing the dollar, no more cash.

Fulfillment of prophecies in progress. But I think there will be an interim period. a switch over lag, between introduction and its full implementation (just guessing here).

BTW, devaluing the dollar is also known as inflation. Something easily accomplished with it being disconnected from any real commodity based backing.

This is the key thing here - so many people talk of how "the rich should pay their fair share" and yet definitions of "rich" and "fair share" usually turn out to mean little more than anyone with more than I have is "rich" and their "fair share" is something substantially more than they currently pay.

The sad thing is people think that taxing the rich or companies will help but it doesn't. The rich can move abroad which means you get a nice fat percentage of zero, and companies will just pass it on to consumers so the average person ends up paying it however it's presented.

Perhaps a better idea would be to investigate just what the government is spending some $6,000,000,000,000 ($4trn in taxes plus $2trn in estimated budget deficit) on every single year before worrying about who should be paying even more.

Oh I don't know. That would have to be done by the professional number crunchers, lol. I can count money but math isnt my strong subject.

I'll be able to tell if what their resolve was to if it feels affordable or like I've been stabbed and robbed.

I don't recall anyone complaining that the Clinton administration represented a government that was too small. Perhaps we could go back to a government that size, and cut taxes accordingly. Or slowly cut taxes, allowing the reduction in the size of government to turn a monstrous deficit into a surplus, and start paying down the terrifyingly large national debt before our creditors refuse to lend any more.
