Do you believe anger is a sin? Why or why not?

I do not believe it is a sin to become angry because the Bible mentions that even God became angry at times. I do believe that your actions when you are angry are what make things a sin or not. For example, if I become angry and then go to the gym to burn off my anger and frustrations........that is not a sin to me. It is not a sin to beat the snot out of a punch bag at the gym while you are angry (in my opinion). If you become angry at your neighbor for something and kill them in anger, then that is a sin.

It depends on the object of that anger....

True, God is often described in Scripture as being angry, but the object of that justified that.

No, I don't believe anger is a sin.

Moses was the meekest man on earth. (Num. 12:3) But Moses in anger killed an Egyptian. (Ex. 2:11-13) God never reprimanded Moses for that.

Later Moses anger got him in trouble with God for striking the Rock when God told Him to speak to the Rock. (Num. 20:10-12).

In other words, Moses anger in killing the Egyptian didn't bother God. Moses anger leading to disobeying what God told him, did bother God.

Righteous indignation, which the unlearned often perceive as anger, is not a sin.

Rev 2:5-6
5 Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.

6
But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.

I agree that experiencing anger itself is not a sin, as even God expressed anger at times, such as in the account of Exodus 32:10-11, where He was angered by the Israelites' idolatry.

Channeling anger into constructive activities, like hitting a punching bag or exercising, can be a healthy wat to cope, reflecting the wisdom of Proverbs 14:29: "Whoever is slow to anger has great understanding."

However, when anger leads to harm or destructive actions, it becomes sinful, as Jesus teaches in Matthew 5:22 about the seriousness of anger leading to actions against others. It is definitely crucial to recognize and manage our anger appropriately, ensuring our responses align with God's teachings.

I think that it depends on the amount of self-centeredness that is involved in our anger. If we get angry at injustice for God's glory and not at the unjust person, leaving that person to God to judge, I don't think it's a sin. However, very little human anger is selfless; self is usually involved.

How much of our anger is self-centered because we want to have our own way? How much is it unselfish for the sake of victims, because we are concerned about injustice and evil in the world? Sin is self-centeredness. God's just anger is righteous because it goes with his concern for humans. In the account of the flood, you have the LORD's (Yahweh's) emotional reactions to human wickedness on his earth, regret, grief, and anger that his creation has become so corrupt. However, he gives humans 120 years to repent while Noah builds the ark.

Gen 6:5 The LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
Gen 6:6 And the LORD regretted that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart.
Gen 6:7 So the LORD said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens, for I am sorry that I have made them.”
