Initially it was the huge hole in my soul, like part of my very being was missing. That was the hardest adjustment, and then it was having to navigate life alone, just being alone and not being able to just pick up the phone to call, or to embrace, having someone to talk intimately with and share our deepest self... those were very painful years.

Not being able to call him up and just talk. His birthday would have been today and his wedding anniversary would have been tomorrow. I miss my big brother.

As the others said, not being able to pick up the phone. There were so many times, after my mother died that I wanted to tell her things and I couldn't.

Now I sound like my mother, so my family has been calling me to fill that void.
