5.5 years of university that focuses on listening as a core practice of my profession. 
Listening is hard. We all know what it's like to read between the lines. I've been taught to "listen between the lines" and get a lot of clarification before I can even start to understand the other person's perspective. It takes a lot of energy to really listen.
