Two he disrecommends are NKJV (which he says combines the worst features of the KJV and modern translations) and NASB (which is literal enough to be misleading). He considers HCSB OK but a denominational translation.

I was surprised by the inclusion of the REB. I agree with his judgement. In my opinion it was killed in part by insufficient publicity by Oxford and Cambridge, and in part because it lacks a user community. It's not an evangelical translation and doesn't have the ecumenical support of the NRSV. I've been disappointed that it seems to have largely vanished.
