    Lämmchen's Workout Thread

Today's suggested workout is threshold intervals. It's very cold outside, so I may end up doing something much less intense.

    Lämmchen's Workout Thread

A gentle run yesterday, I actually managed to keep my speed and pulse down enough that my watch considered it a base run. Then today it was cold and wet, my suggested workout was "recovery" (i.e. even slower, and short) so I did some walking indoors.

    Queen of Denmark

I can't tell you about the Danish monarch but in the UK the monarch is most a figurehead for practical purposes, although all sorts of things go through the monarchy. After a general election the monarch invites the leader of the winning party to form a government. In theory the monarch could...

    Vaccinations in the 1960's

I think one complicating factor is the sheer number of vaccines these days with the increased potential for something to go wrong in any given individual. We also have the idea that "safe" and "risk free" are synonymous and therefore anything that is not 100% risk free is not "safe". At least...

Does God have to obey logic and reason?

Free will is the cause of much suffering. If I hit you with a big stick you suffer. It's simple. Sometimes the cause and effect is less obvious - if I live upstream of you and dump my trash in the river that you use to draw drinking water, over time there's a good chance my trash will slowly...

Does God have to obey logic and reason?

All these questions you're asking... isn't it great that you have the freedom to think and ask questions? In your other thread you seemed to think free will was a bad thing, and yet at the same time you don't want to be told to accept that some things will remain a mystery. So which is it? Do...

Which of the three attributes of Abrahamic God is less likely to be real?

We can reason together without understanding everything. We can seek to understand more while accepting we will not understand everything. It's not unlike reasoning with a child, depending on their age we can explain some things to them to improve their understanding but other times we expect...

Which of the three attributes of Abrahamic God is less likely to be real?

Sure it is, but it comes with its own assumptions and biases which you continually fail to acknowledge. If you start from a faulty assumption any conclusion you draw will be faulty. Which still assumes that the suffering serves no purpose. It assumes you know better than God what purpose...

    Completely legalizing marijuana

Something that is legal doesn't have to be mandatory. It's legal to smoke cigarettes but many people make the decision not to.

Which of the three attributes of Abrahamic God is less likely to be real?

What you're saying, yet again, is that God defies your understanding of logic. You don't see a greater good in suffering, therefore no greater good exists, therefore God is not omnibenevolent, neener neener. Perhaps another possible conclusion is that there's a bigger picture you and I can't...

Which of the three attributes of Abrahamic God is less likely to be real?

A friend of mine works in his chosen trade. When he was training his supervisor would frequently tell him something along the lines of "this is how you do this job, for now you need to trust me and I'll explain it all later". Which was fine - he was the supervisor and my friend was the trainee...

If a police vehicle is tailgating you,

If someone is tailgating me I slow down, I don't really care who they are. If the police want to run my license plate they are welcome to do so - it's not like I can stop them from reading the plate (that's kinda the point of having a plate in the first place). If they want to get somewhere they...

Which of the three attributes of Abrahamic God is less likely to be real?

Which, therefore, means that God cannot be all-powerful because he cannot create such an object. It's absurd logic, but no more absurd than some of the other ideas being thrown around. So you're saying that God cannot be good if evil exists? So because you don't think free will is desirable...

Which of the three attributes of Abrahamic God is less likely to be real?

It's not about misunderstanding, it's about what seems like yet another post that boils down to "I don't see any greater good in this apparently bad thing, therefore no greater good can possibly exist, therefore a being that allows this apparently bad thing cannot be good". I thought much the...

Which of the three attributes of Abrahamic God is less likely to be real?

If you want to play semantics then God can't possibly be all-powerful, period. If God can create an object so large he can't move it then he's not all-powerful because he can't move the object. If God can't create such an object then he's not all-powerful because he can't create it. Neener...

Which of the three attributes of Abrahamic God is less likely to be real?

Honestly, this poll looks like yet another variation on the theme that essentially claims little more than "God doesn't do what I think God should do, therefore God isn't who people say he is."

    Locked out

I'd agree with this - convenience isn't much of a concern beyond not wanting to be outside in the pouring rain spending 20 minutes recovering a key because you forgot yours, as anyone passing by can see you're doing something very strange and you end up needing to think of another hiding spot...

    Incognito users

Not on Chrome. I have used it on other browsers, usually in the run-up to Christmas and my wife's birthday so she doesn't see where I've been looking for her presents.

    Locked out

I've seen those. A friend of mine had one, on its own, right outside his door. He might as well have put a big sign saying "key hidden here". If you've got a rock garden and one of them is a fake rock that works better. Ideally it needs to be something you can go right to without alerting...

    Locked out

It's remarkable how many people still leave a spare key under the doormat, or under the plant pot beside the door. If the key is a pain to get at when you know where it is, it's fairly safe to say nobody else is likely to find it.
