    The gift is the Holy Spirit as well as the forgiveness of sins that was won at the cross. Baptism isn't empty, God is doing something.

    Baptism is God's work in us (be baptized is passive language meaning something is happening to you and anothen is from above). Baptisms gives faith so yes, it's still faith alone. It's not anything we do to achieve salvation. It's God's work entirely.
