My current avatar is an icon of the Lord, Jesus Christ, from a church in southern Italy.
I use it because it points to Jesus as the Lord who came to Earth, was crucified, and died. The icon also includes two witnesses to the Lord's crucifixion.
One cannot expect to be forgiven without repenting. Jesus told a parable about the principle. It reads this way:
Matthew 18:21 Then Peter came to him and asked, “Lord, how often should I forgive someone who sins against me? Seven times?”
22 “No, not seven times,” Jesus replied, “but seventy...
Hymn
Light’s glittering morn bedecks the sky,
Heav’n thunders forth its victor cry:
The glad earth shouts her triumph high,
And groaning hell makes wild reply.
While he, the King of sovereign might,
Treads down death’s strength in death’s despite,
And trampling hell by victor’s right,
Brings...
Hymn
O Christ, the heavens’ eternal King,
Creator, unto thee we sing,
With God the Father ever One,
Co-equal, co-eternal Son.
Thy hand, when first the world began,
Made in thine own pure image man,
And linked to fleshly form of earth
A living soul of heavenly birth.
And when the envious crafty...

Behold, the Lord's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear. Isa. 59:1
In the day when I cried thou answeredst me, and strengthenedst me with strength in my soul. Psa. 138:3

If you want to give 10% or 11% or 21% or whatever you conceive a tithe to be then go ahead. Nobody is stopping you. But if you want to give cheerfully out of a grateful heart and the amount you give is less than 10% do not feel guilty, you are under no obligation to give 10% or more.
Preachers in the Brethren movement do not receive a salary nor do preachers from Jehovah's Witnesses, the former are generally acknowledged to be Christians and the latter are not yet both groups do not make such a fuss about money in their preaching as the televangelists do.
Malachi writes about the temple in Jerusalem and its upkeep. Tithes were a tax. No government today maintains the temple in Jerusalem so no tax for maintaining it is needed. Tithes are not part of Jesus' teaching about giving.
I spy with my discerning eye something beginning with s.
If the preacher is rich he does not need donations to defray costs. If he is advocating donations for charity take him at his word and give to your favourite charity but not to him. It's simple.
I didn't ask you anything about these words: "so we have the assurance that even our future sins are forgiven. That doesn't give us license to sin." What I did is is say "What the faithful have assurance of is that they will receive forgiveness for any and every sin for which they repent."
Oh good. For a moment I thought you might believe that somebody (anybody) believes what you implied in your earlier post - "He won't be returning to the cross each time we sin" implying that forgiving sins after they happen needs a re-sacrifice - if that isn't what you intended to imply then...

Be ye perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. Matt. 5:48
