According to the Apostle Paul, @Lamb, we no longer have a law-guardian, but instead we are "sons" of God connected to Jesus (of course, sons inherited their fathers' estates then):
Gal 3:25 But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian,
Gal 3:26 for in Christ Jesus you are...
In the context of Jesus' illustration, our lives are unfruitful unless we remain in Jesus by drawing on his resurrection power to do our good works as true Christians.
@MoreCoffee, both right beliefs and right actions are important in the Christian life. I know people who conform their lives to Christian biblical values but are really far from God as well as people who have imperfect lives but good beliefs.
I have "wrestled" with God several times. The most intense time was when God healed my major, seven-year depression but left behind four kinds of chronic, physical pain as my "thorn in the flesh" that have lasted until the present. I thanked him for his healing of my depression after lamenting...
I believe that the action of baptism does not clothe us in Christ's righteousness, but that it is only our public response showing our trust in Jesus. I say this because I have been baptized three times, but in none of them did I become righteous in Jesus because of the water.
I was christened...
If the new Adam in us almost automatically does good works without our need to persevere in our grateful lives, why do you think the New Testament letter writers command their fellow Christians to live lives pleasing to God (for example, Colossians 3 and 4, Ephesians 4-6, Romans 12-16, Hebrews...
@grumix8, of course, Calvin isn't the "foundation of decisions and freewill in the Bible." I have never believed that he is. However, in most of his teachings, he bases and organizes them squarely on and truly to the Bible. Inasmuch as he does that teaching, I agree with him. You are right that...
@Edward429451, I sent it to two other readers on the forum, but it was "corrupted." Then, I sent as a pdf, and it was fine. If you want to send me your email to my email, [staff removal of private info] I can send it to you as an attachment. Thanks ahead of time. Your brother in Christ's love...
@Manonfire63, here's my quote at the beginning of those passages to answer your question: "Sin isn't just actions; it is attitudes and desires like pride, impatience, impulsiveness, lust, and others. The demons at Satan's urging attack Christians at their weakest points. We need to ask for God's...
@WandererAtHeart, Jesus said in Mat 5:48--"You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect." Anything that we do, say, or think that is not perfect is sin. It boils down to putting ourselves first in our thoughts, feelings, and decisions instead of God.
However, an unbeliever...
Say, @Edward429451, on a different topic, would you be willing to read, comment on, and perhaps making an endorsement? I could send it as an attachment. Its the first manuscript that I just finished.
I think that forgiveness has to happen in two parts:
1. Unloading our anger and anxiety on God in persistent prayer, while seeking his peace, the way Paul calls us to do in Philippians 4:6-7:
Php 4:6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with...
And others want to take at least partial credit for our work-out, @Lamb, whereas we wouldn't be able to do anything of lasting value apart from the Triune God's work in us, that's for sure!
How do you suppose color blindness like my red-green color blindness figure into it, since my mother carried the recessive gene? I do eagerly look forward to seeing all the colors on the new earth and in the new universe with my new eyes in my resurrection body!!
