    Passive Righteousness

God plus man for salvation diminishes the weight of what sin truly is. My initial post states that we can only bring our sin to God. What does scriptures say about God not being near sin? This is why HE gives us righteousness so that we can be with him. He isn't waiting for your yes because...

    Passive Righteousness

Do you not believed that we are saved "by grace through faith"? Ephesians 2: 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith If the Holy Spirit gives you faith to believe then you are saved "by grace through faith". There is no...but then you must...because you have faith given by the Holy Spirit.

Should Psalms be used to support doctrine?

I don't think that the psalms are without doctrine. There are 5 types of Psalms (prophecy, instruction, comfort, prayer and thanks). In the churches I've attended we generally chant the psalms because they were meant to be sung. There is a pattern taken from the Jewish synagogue of singing...

Should Psalms be used to support doctrine?

YES!! That's a great one! We chant the Psalms on Sunday :)

    Passive Righteousness

If the Holy Spirit gives us faith...then we no longer are unrighteous are we?

    Passive Righteousness

God uses His word to bring us to faith. We can definitely be shown our foolishness and sin through God's Law. But the unbeliever can't repent and turn to God. It's God who turns us to Him.

    Passive Righteousness

The prodigal son was already a son and turned away from his father. That's a different story and doesn't apply here in this thread about passive righteousness.

    Passive Righteousness

I see you wrote ... "God who then begins to clean us up if we are willing". But the verse I showed you says that the gospel is foolishness to the unbeliever. The unbeliever won't be willing. Only God can make us believers. We can't choose that for ourselves.

What does the man who is covered in sin and the gospel message is foolishness to him decide?

How often do you think Communion should be served as part of Sunday worship?

My previous church had 3 services. Saturday evening alternated between Vespers and Holy Communion. The early Sunday service alternated between Matins and Holy Communion (not the same weekend that the Saturday service had communion). And the late Sunday morning service always had Holy Communion...

Should Psalms be used to support doctrine?

I think the Psalms are wonderful but when they're taken out of context they can be dangerous...just like that example you gave in the OP :) Context is key!

How can you decide if you're stuck in sin and the gospel is foolishness without the Holy Spirit first giving you faith?
  13. Lamb

    Passive Righteousness

Are you saying that righteousness isn't given unless man gives God something first (hopes, dreams, goals, heart)? God wants us to love Him but that isn't a requirement in receiving Christ's righteousness. We receive what He gives because He first loves us. Our love comes later when HE builds...

    Passive Righteousness

Covered in sin how do you receive something...passively because your sin can't reach out to grab hold. It is placed upon you. Passively. Like the rain falling down, you didn't do anything to have it fall on your head.

    Passive Righteousness

1 Corinthians 1:18 "For the message of the cross is foolishness [absurd and illogical] to those who are perishing and spiritually dead [because they reject it]" The relationship we have with God is not something that is begun by us but by Him. Unbelievers want nothing to do with God. We can't...

    Passive Righteousness

http://www.rjgrune.com/blog/two-kinds-of-righteousness "Passive righteousness is the vertical relationship between God and man. God does the work. The only contribution that man brings into this equation is sin. This is a righteousness that is alien; it is completely outside of ourselves."...

How often do you think Communion should be served as part of Sunday worship?

My husband's former church did. My husband lived very near the church and I know sometimes his mom would go to mass in the mornings :)

    Crucified with Christ

Actually that shows that the will is bound to sin like Luther says.

    Crucified with Christ

What does the bible say about God's will and man's will? That verse about Jesus standing at the door...that's addressed to believers. So that can't be used as proof for your belief that man has to give God permission first. Yes, we can resist and turn away from God's grace. But does that mean...
