    Baptism is God's work in us and it's not just symbolic. That's how I see the point of the OP. In baptism God actually DOES something.

    There were more Christian churches than just the Roman Catholic. So you agree that there is no documentation to prove that symbolic only was a doctrine? That must mean it wasn't practiced by any church.

    In Acts 2:38-39 where it says that the gift of the Holy Spirit is given in baptism (if you get the gift of the Holy Spirit you have faith to receive it) and this gift is for you AND your children.
