If the apocrypha doesn’t belong in the Bible, then please explain why Clement of Rome said that Judith is scripture in his letter to the Corinthians?

I love how the church in Rome doesn’t even know their own recent history now because atpollard said so.

If the apocrypha doesn’t belong in the Bible, then please explain why Clement of Rome said that Judith is scripture in his letter to the Corinthians?

I know that Tertullian said that the Roman Church believed that Clement was ordained by Peter. So, yes, there were people back then who made that claim. So, if Peter ordained Clement, and Peter did not consider Judith to be scripture, it’s quite odd that Peter ordained someone who thought...

If the apocrypha doesn’t belong in the Bible, then please explain why Clement of Rome said that Judith is scripture in his letter to the Corinthians?

So you admit that you can’t prove the claim that you made, that Clement never spoke with Paul or Peter. That’s what I thought.

If the apocrypha doesn’t belong in the Bible, then please explain why Clement of Rome said that Judith is scripture in his letter to the Corinthians?

Clement’s letter to the Corinthians: “Ye understand, beloved, ye understand well the Sacred Scriptures, and ye have looked very earnestly into the oracles of God. Call then these things to your remembrance. When Moses went up into the mount...” He goes into an example about Moses. Then he says...

If the apocrypha doesn’t belong in the Bible, then please explain why Clement of Rome said that Judith is scripture in his letter to the Corinthians?

If you read it in context, he mentions Moses, Judith, and Esther, and makes it clear that he’s giving examples found in scripture. Don’t just pull out the one single verse where Judith is mentioned. Read it in context.

If the apocrypha doesn’t belong in the Bible, then please explain why Clement of Rome said that Judith is scripture in his letter to the Corinthians?

Clement says in his letter of 1 Clement that he lived the same time as the apostles. But he never claimed to have never spoken to them. But you claim he never spoke to them. How do you know that?

If the apocrypha doesn’t belong in the Bible, then please explain why Clement of Rome said that Judith is scripture in his letter to the Corinthians?

That doesn’t answer my question. How did Clement not get informed that Judith doesn’t belong? If Peter and Paul informed the churches of Rome and Corinth that Judith isn’t scripture, then how is it that Clement, the church leader, was not informed about this? Clement lived the same time as...

If the apocrypha doesn’t belong in the Bible, then please explain why Clement of Rome said that Judith is scripture in his letter to the Corinthians?

You need to read the whole letter of 1 Clement. Yes, he does refer to Judith as scripture. He starts out saying that he’s going to give some examples from scripture. Then he talks about Moses, then Judith and Esther, and then repeats the fact that he has given examples from scripture. But, you...

If the apocrypha doesn’t belong in the Bible, then please explain why Clement of Rome said that Judith is scripture in his letter to the Corinthians?

You still have not explained how Clement became convinced that Judith is scripture. If Peter and Paul didn’t accept it, why did Clement?

If the apocrypha doesn’t belong in the Bible, then please explain why Clement of Rome said that Judith is scripture in his letter to the Corinthians?

Clement of Rome was alive the same time the apostles were alive, and would have known Peter and Paul personally. Clement wrote a letter to the Corinthians (1 Clement) where he mentions Moses, Judith, and Esther, and calls them all scripture. Judith is an apocryphal book. If Peter and Paul...

When they say that the Apocryphal books don’t belong in the Bible, who’s authority is that based on?

Is that based on the authority of an early church council or a modern day council?
