Why did Athanasius and Melito of Sardis say that Esther doesn’t belong in the canon of scripture?

Also, Athanasius includes Baruch among the canonical books. So, I guess anyone who accepts Athanasius’ instruction must insert Baruch and delete Esther, since, you know, he gave a DIFFERENT LIST than what we use today.

Why did Athanasius and Melito of Sardis say that Esther doesn’t belong in the canon of scripture?

Probably the same reason Athanasius included Esther in his list of apocrypha. Because the Jews at that time rejected Esther, until the Jews later changed their minds and included it.

Why did Athanasius and Melito of Sardis say that Esther doesn’t belong in the canon of scripture?

“But for the sake of greater exactness I add this also, writing under obligation, as it were. There are other books besides these, indeed not received as canonical but having been appointed by our fathers to be read to those just approaching and wishing to be instructed in the word of godliness...

Why did Athanasius and Melito of Sardis say that Esther doesn’t belong in the canon of scripture?

What was it about Esther that caused them to think that it’s apocryphal and an invention of heretics? And do you think they might be right? I really like the book of Esther. But then again, it’s not quoted or referenced by Jesus or the apostles in any of the New Testament books. I mean, in the...

I’ve heard it said that it’s mainly evangelical Christians who refuse to get the vaccine

Do you think there’s a reason for that? Maybe because we trust in God’s protection? Maybe because we believe the virus is here to kill the wicked and not the righteous?

Clearing the Rubble Heap Between Jew and Gentile

Cool thing about grafting: when you graft an orange tree branch into an apple tree, it still produces oranges.

What is the Biblical definition of usury, and does the Bible say it’s sinful?

In Matthew’s gospel, Jesus said: “Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury.” -Matthew 25:27 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=Matthew%2025:27&version=KJV In Luke, Jesus said: “Wherefore then...

What was it historically that set Catholics down the path of believing Mary stayed a virgin her whole life?

I don’t know what his problem is with fonts. Obviously they make modern printings of old documents in today’s English.

What was it historically that set Catholics down the path of believing Mary stayed a virgin her whole life?

Are you Catholic? You sound like it. The Protestants I know are not obsessed with Mary. But Catholics are the ones who make statues to her, pray to her, and make up supposedly true stories of people in modern times being visited by her. I remember Steven Colbert talking with a fellow Catholic...

What was it historically that set Catholics down the path of believing Mary stayed a virgin her whole life?

One thing that really stands out to me is the fact that Catholics today refer to Mary as the Queen of Heaven, and they burn incense to her. Well, in Isaiah, God rebuked the Israelites for worshipping a false godess, who they referred to as the Queen of Heaven. Also in the book of Acts, the...

What was it historically that set Catholics down the path of believing Mary stayed a virgin her whole life?

Yes, I believe because this lie was started very early on, at least as early as the 3rd century, long before the Catholics and Eastern Orthodox had their major split.

What was it historically that set Catholics down the path of believing Mary stayed a virgin her whole life?

On a side note, I find it interesting how the nation’s capitol is right in between Virginia and Maryland. Think about that. Virginia (virgin) and Maryland (Mary). Just goes to show the influence Catholics still had even after the church of England had broken away from Catholicism.

What was it historically that set Catholics down the path of believing Mary stayed a virgin her whole life?

Most of the Catholics I’ve talked to want to argue the point that Mary remained a virgin her whole life. But the New Testament never specifies this. In fact, it insinuates the opposite. It says Joseph refrained from sleeping with Mary until after Jesus was born, which makes it sound like he...

    Should Christians use cuss words?

How old are you? I’m surprised you haven’t learned what cuss words are. Are you still in grade school? Or did you grow up Amish? You seriously have never learned what cuss words are?

    Should Christians use cuss words?

As I said already, a cuss word depends on time, region, language, and culture.
