Did Jesus celebrate a holiday that comes from the apocrypha?

"Screwy ideas", can you emphasis on that? If you are talking about purgatory you should take a deep breath of fresh air and relax because it's not in 2nd Maccabees like the RCC may claim and Martin Luther even sides with them in agreement that it promotes purgatory, which is false.. Maybe if...

Did Jesus celebrate a holiday that comes from the apocrypha?

Give me something from the Apocrypha you totally disagree with that "makes no sense"

Did Jesus celebrate a holiday that comes from the apocrypha?

So let's just hypothetically theorise for a moment that what if there were no great post Apostle councils, would that mean that no OT was set canon? Would that mean they were uninspired?

Did Jesus celebrate a holiday that comes from the apocrypha?

Point is we would all be reading them if it weren't for them meddling councils ;)

    Apocrypha?

This whole time you and Josiah made such a big emphasis on these councils but whenever it is suggested that they accepted Maccabees we were just giving you that double standard feeling which is why councils should have simply stuck to inspiring Christian creeds and not cherry picking OT...

    Apocrypha?

Councils really are a catch 22, they decide what's inspired so we 'must believe them'! That's a bunch of phooey, of course the NT is accurate because if the gnostic writings were teaching another gospel (which is no gospel at all) we can easily identify it. The real council are the apostles and...

Did Jesus celebrate a holiday that comes from the apocrypha?

I agree with Nathan and we aren't talking about prayer books etc.. "Apocrypha" makes these books unattractive for anyone to ever read because they are "rejects", heck even the Catholic church doesn't use them in sermons, no body wants to read "uninspired" literature! The Apostles weren't...

    Apocrypha?

They certainly did recognised these books as divine scripture :) History people! Even Martin spoke on behalf of these books doubting one but totally accepting the other (1rst Maccabees) as full fleshed Scripture!

    Apocrypha?

Clement of Rome (the church of Rome being the biggest Christian church in Paul's time and where Paul preached) mentions the apocrypha along side scripture in at least one of his letters that I know of. The church's later refusal of the books were a response to the Jews rejecting them, thus they...

Did the ancient Pagan Religions get picked up as 'tradition'?

Is that last one a book or are you just being poetic? :)

Did the ancient Pagan Religions get picked up as 'tradition'?

Where do you get this information? Seriously (books? Authors?) I wouldn't mind reading
  13. Andrew

Did the ancient Pagan Religions get picked up as 'tradition'?

They were considered priests, Egypt had them and even the Druids, they consistently practised divination and esoteric mysteries meaning you had to be initiated into the religion (this may be where your 'philosophers' come in)

Did the ancient Pagan Religions get picked up as 'tradition'?

Mystery religion priests, I'm sure Mythra had a hierarchy priesthood being part of the state religion for some time

Mantra to calm down when you get angry

Same here, I rarely get mad but when I do it's just for a brief moment.. If it's really serious though I go play guitar or something lest I get very depressed, in which case I turn to scripture and gain spiritual understanding

So... What are YOU doing? - Part 7

Woohoo I've got a buyer for my old car! I really was humble with the price, 1,600 for a car that's blue booked at $3000... needed a little cosmetic work, driver side window crank, hood dent, loose fan knob, but I inherited my moms car and I need the money quick since I missed about a month of work.

    The false premise of Universalism

Good response and I agree, God is completely sovereign and still very mysterious and no matter our different opinions we just can't box God into a.. box.. :) I believe we are on the same side of the coin we just express it differently
