I believe Noah’s flood was 5,000 years ago, not 4,400.

What does it matter? The Hebrew text are lost too

I told you they are lost

I believe Noah’s flood was 5,000 years ago, not 4,400.

Where is it? Last time it was seen it was used and quoted from 1rst 2nd and 3rd century ante-nicen church fathers starting with Pauls appointed Bishop and overseer of the Church of Rome named Clement who wrote near the end and after the 1rst Century quoting strictly from the Septuagint and...

I believe Noah’s flood was 5,000 years ago, not 4,400.

Aquila had replaced the majority by removing them from the Synagogues and replacing them with his greek translation with the same alterations that we find in the Masoretic, thus scholars dub his translation as based off a "proto-masoretic". This was during the time right after the Sadducies...

I believe Noah’s flood was 5,000 years ago, not 4,400.

If you don't mind me answering that question, yes Nathan advocates the Septuagint as being a more accurate translation of an older and more genuine Hebrew than that of the Masoretic

    Suggest a movie

I watched a film called "Another Earth" which had a great story line although one might judge it to be slow if they sit in on it half way through. Spoiler Alert. Basically this teenager was drunking drunk and the radio mentioned a new blue star to make wish on, as she is driving and gazing at...

    Last Rites

My understanding is that the LCMS, having it's roots in traditional Catholicism, borrows many of the non-heritical traditions of the Catholic Church. Nothing wrong with last rites, my mom received hers by a priest and she was finally at peace regarding her past sins.. of course she accepted...

I believe Noah’s flood was 5,000 years ago, not 4,400.

Pretty close, that would also match up with Sumerien account of the deluge 2900 BC. Since all of the worldly pagan flood myths originated at the Tower of Babel after a very real flood, the Hebrews were the only ones to have the correct version, although they didn't any writing system at the...

On a scale from 1 to 10, with 1 being the smallest and 10 being the largest…

Probably all young animals, so I say 3ish. Less food for smaller/young animal tummys, less poop, less hostility... I dunno

    Genealogy in Matthew

I recommend this apologetic work from our member NathanH83 to the Jewish Rabbis who claim that the genealogy in Mathew proves Jesus cannot be the Messiah.

    Favorite/preferred Bible translation

I use the KJV for the NT, I prefer comparing the Masoretic/KJV to Brentons Greek Septuagint translations for the OT, which (the LXX) is still translated to a KJV-type archaic form of English. For simplicity i'll use the Good News Catholic Bible

    Thorn in the flesh

I remember Les Feldick commententing on it and he made a good case for failing eyesight. Couldn't find the episode but this is what he quoted as testimony to the idea that Paul was going blind. Writing to the Galatians Paul commented.. “See what large letters I use as I write to you…”...

Ecclesiasticus 28:2 and the Lord's prayer

The Lord's prayer does not mention "the golden rule" nor karma nor anything even close to that, Sirach doesn't imply any such thing either, I'm not following what you're saying Patrick [emoji6] An early Protestant commentator suggested that it must have been written into Sirach early on by a...

Ecclesiasticus 28:2 and the Lord's prayer

Yes, that is exactly what it means.. Jesus is a Buddhist [emoji849] Or it could mean that the book of Sirach, a book identified as imparted Wisdom of the God of Abraham, Issac and Jacob (not of Buddha) was written under divine inspiration which also agrees with Jesus regarding prayer... I don't...

Ecclesiasticus 28:2 and the Lord's prayer

“Forgive thy neighbour the hurt that he hath done unto thee, so shall thy sins also be forgiven when thou prayest.” -Sirach 28:2 Is there anything here worth discussing? If so.. discuss! [emoji6]

Lving biblically in the current times

The early Christians also rejected entertainment, games etc.. nothing new under the sun, we are still singled out as being a rather boring bunch but there is nothing boring about the Bible.
