Why become a Catholic if you are a Protestant?

Another explanation: I would suggest that Catholics, Cafeteria Catholics, and Protestants HIDING in the Catholic Church are real and true Catholics. They do not see themselves as belonging to the specific, singular [Roman Catholic] church/denomination, but simply as Catholic, whatever branch of...

Why become a Catholic if you are a Protestant?

I've found a number of the responses to only add rhetoric to the thread. What does it add, frankly? Nothing except to diminish the credibility of any valid point said poster(s) may have.

Who's got the best 'war' avatar?

I don't know what the thing is with 'war' today. Just finished watching "Patton" on cable. Haven't seen that in years.

Who's got the best 'war' avatar?

It started in the chat box, then Lämm got a new avatar, and it sort of snowballed from there when my mind went to old Stanley Kubrick war flicks. Welcome to CH! :D

Why become a Catholic if you are a Protestant?

It may be a common experience, but I dare say that the sample would be a bit skewed. There may be some Catholics who also would hedge on Catholic doctrine/dogma - admittedly be uncomfortable and not swallow everything hook, line, and sinker - yet would look askance at being termed anything but...

Are NDEs evidence of the soul?

I'd have to look at some research again, but from what I recall NDE's were mostly neurological experiences/episodes. Some may have interpreted these as "evidence" of afterlife, but not really understood some of the biochemical 'mechanics' behind it. But, again, I'd have to look at the research.

Who's got the best 'war' avatar?

Let me see your war face! :) "You don't convince me; work on it" - Sgt. Hartman :D (Just for fun. I promise my old avatar will come back...)

For Those Who Need to Find Ways to Save $$$

Aldi's absolutely rocks! Unfortunately, there aren't any in Canada, and nothing similar. There are a few places in the states where I can go, but the exchange rate isn't that great right now. I have found some decent things at thrift stores. We have 'Value Village' here, and I've found some...

    Lizzie is converting

I agree with the point about the Eastern Orthodox, Anglican, and Lutheran churches. I think, if given a choice, I'd be drawn a bit more to a conservative Anglican church - none of which exist around me. There's a congregation of about 10 or so members about an hour away (or more). Other Anglican...

Somehow I think I'm supposed to be surprised... Am I supposed to be surprised?

Air out your pet peeves here :)

That sucks. I think most everyone here is sick to one degree or another. Lots of sneezing and nose blowing going on. We just deal with it.

Air out your pet peeves here :)

Co-worker 'A' says something about an issue she's having (professional issue - resources for a client), and I have some resources to share with her that are specific to the youth she's working with. Co-worker 'B' immediately talks over me about things that will not help the youth in question...

Why become a Catholic if you are a Protestant?

Frankly, Josiah, as someone who personally has friends and family who are Catholic that don't resemble anything like the "vast majority of Catholics (who) have no idea who the actual Savior is", I find this quite offensive.

Credobaptists - What about those with disabilities and baptism?

You've read all 34 pages? I'll wait... You're quite right. So, if I came to your church and wanted to join, but refused to be baptized, could I still join? If not, why? No-one has said baptism saves. Baptism is a means of grace.

    Wife's feelings about this? :D

Credobaptists - What about those with disabilities and baptism?

Support of paedobaptism has been argued from scripture and tradition in this thread. I know you accept the legitimacy of the first and reject the second, therefore rejecting paedobaptism. But we do not use the same rubric.

Credobaptists - What about those with disabilities and baptism?

And so, subjectivism reared it's beautiful head. Scripture does not specifically say this, so it must mean that. We have to understand, too, that those "reading in their own language" were unlearned. They weren't typically scholars of the time, but common people who had little knowledge or...

So... What are YOU doing? - Part 5

Wondering what I'm doing at work. We were notified on the 16th that the funding for our program was cancelled, and we were given three weeks notice. According to the labor laws, my employer could have given us severance equal to the three weeks. I've done nothing related to my job for the last...
