The things in scripture that require lots of ‘personal opinion’ tend to require very little action. Escatology does not dramatically impact my daily encounters. Whose sins Jesus carried to the cross is not a matter of vital personal concern.
The things in scripture that impact daily life tend...
I remember being a very young child and being fascinated with Ancient Egypt and Greece and Rome. I remember reading that it was common knowledge that the Egyptians invented the spoked wheel that gave them an advantage in chariot technology over their solid-wheeled neighbors. I remember that...
THE APOSTLES CREED
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and...
Albion says: “No, we do not baptize anyone against his will.”
Josiah says: “Understood, I just don’t know of any verse that says, ‘Thou canst NOT teach and baptize people until it can be ascertained by people whether said receiver consents to it.’”
So Albion may not baptize anyone against...
How does a 6 month old communicate their ‘will’ one way or the other?
Thank you for that refreshing statement of honesty. (Thumbs up)
Was the remark about 5 year olds directed at a specific statement of Pedrito’s ? If not, then even speculating that there were 5 year olds is speculation since...
I resent the false accusation. Even a quick look will reveal that NASB is the version I quote almost exclusively, so all I did was a quick word search in my favorite translation for “then” and “baptized”. The word “then” appears in no passage in any Greek manuscript ... it is not a Greek word...
Perhaps, but I wasn’t commenting on that. Josiah stated emphatically that there were NO VERSES that linked the word “then” with baptism. I simply provided a verse that contained the word “then” and “baptized”. I was correcting a false sweeping statement. There is at least one verse.
1. Lydia might have been a blonde (it doesn’t say).
[Act 2:41 NASB] 41 So then, those who had received his word were baptized; and that day there were added about three thousand souls.
Don’t you ever get tired of refuting arguments that I am not making? :ewink:
Acts 18:8 NASB Crispus, the leader of the synagogue, believed in the Lord with all his household, and many of the Corinthians when they heard were believing and being baptized.
YES! This is the heart of the Covenent Baptism position ... that baptism has replaced circumcision. However, this is not the argument that is being presented in these topics for why babies should be baptized. Instead I am being pummeled with ‘it doesn’t say not to’ and ‘households must...
Actually, they don’t “SHOW” the “THEN they believed” part. One must assume that based on the assumption that some in the household did not believe (which may be true, but it is still an assumption and not explicitly stated).
Provide a verse that proves me wrong ... I am happy to be convinced...
At best, there are examples of ‘entire households’ that are silent on the order of belief and baptism, to which one can infer that baptism came first, but which cannot be used to prove from scripture that baptism preceded belief. (This is just a simple fact, like it not mentioning infants or...
Q.F.T.
Baptism is ALWAYS shown to be a response, never the preceding cause.
(And THAT has nothing to do with the Anabaptists or people with red hair or Americans.)
Acts 2:37 NASB Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brethren...
I don’t know how common or uncommon the position is, but I agree with Josiah. Even if I knew with certainty that the OT view that life simply ends at the grave were true, I would still choose to serve God by following the teaching of Jesus Christ. My life as a Christian has been FAR better...
It is not a red herring when vague claims are being made that scripture clearly shows infants being baptized. If people were claiming that scripture specifically made reference to blonde haired Americans being baptized (or being forbidden baptism) then it would be appropriate to challenge those...
