Are you saved because you believe? Or do you believe because you are saved?

I agree with the proposition that scripture does say that Christ's work is for all. I agree that it is bad theology to deny it.

The Word Trinity not in scripture? I believe it is.

Greek is the language of the Bible? One ought to write to the chief Rabbis around the world to let them know that Hebrew and Aramaic are no longer languages of the Bible.

Baptism in Jesus’ name, Trinitarian style.

Did you know that the scriptures say that Saint Peter holds the keys of the Kingdom of God? What is your intention with the remark about reformation confessions and the anti-Christ? Is this something which you approve?

    What now for Republicans?

Maybe republicans are not God's chosen political party after all, eh? The Democratic Party isn't. Perhaps a lesson worth taking from the election is that Christ hasn't endorsed any earthly political party, so maybe Christians shouldn't endorse any too.

The Word Trinity not in scripture? I believe it is.

Trias (in Greek) is not Trinitas (in Latin), so it seems that "trinity" is not in 1 John 5:7-8 regardless of the comma.

    Divorce and Remarriage

The Catholic Church eschews divorce followed by "remarriage" because the scriptures eschew it. What others in other religions do is up to them.

Tongues and the Signs and Wonders Ceased, here’s why

Another theological controversy - so many in so few posts! On this matter you have my sympathy because when I watch YouTube videos of tongues from the platform, the Holy Spirit hokey pokey, and people falling down onto the floor and laughing almost hysterically I'd rather say it was all a...

Baptism in Jesus’ name, Trinitarian style.

Uh huh, that darned naughty Pope (which one by the way?) allegedly thwarted Jesus Christ and did some terrible thing by baptising in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, just as the Lord, Jesus Christ commanded in Matthew 28:1`9.

Jesus died for the sins of the world

Would it trouble one's theology to leave intact in the scriptures both the idea of Christ taking away the sin of the world and the idea that one must repent and believe the gospel in order to be forgiven and made fit to enter God's presence?

Who is "him that justifieth the ungodly"?

Makes you wonder why anyone would "justify" the ungodly?

    Why Universal Atonement is Pelagianism.

What is "universal atonement"? The scriptures tell us that Jesus Christ is the lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. The scriptures also tell us that God does not wish any to perish but for all the repent and come to know the truth. Saint Paul in his letters tells us that death came...

Are you saved because you believe? Or do you believe because you are saved?

Does it matter - except for the purpose of formulating some theory in theology?

    Decision Theology

Living is a process. It would be very disappointing to be born and not live. We celebrate the anniversary of birth each year after birth for as long as we live. This is also true of being born from above. But we stop celebrating when life ends. So it is that conversion is a process not an event...

    Decision Theology

Conversion is a process not an event. There are events in every process but it is a mistake to pick one of them and treat it as if it were the entire process. One becomes a Christian by remaining "in Christ" like a fruitful branch of a grape vine remains a part of the vine. Jesus explained this...

Vatican puts brakes on progressive German Catholic movement

Married priests is up for debate but the decision about allowing it is one for the hierarchy to make. Women as priests was fairly definitively disallowed by saint John Paul II. In 1994, Pope John Paul II declared, “The Church has no authority whatsoever to confer priestly ordination on women...

What do you believe YHWH means?

Many titles, I agree, but many names? Not so much. Isaiah 42:8 I am YHWH, that is my name; my glory I give to no other, nor my praise to graven images.

What do you believe YHWH means?

I know an elder among Jehovah's witnesses and, naturally enough, for him God's covenant name is of paramount importance. He uses "Jehovah" as the way to spell and pronounce God's name. That spelling is mistaken but it isn't hugely important to me that their chosen spelling isn't quite right...
