Read the entire introduction to Kings. It is long and I should not have to post a wall of text for you to read for yourself and see that you are 100% mistaken. Jerome is clear about what IS canon and what IS apocrypha. Tobit is NOT CANON. Tobit IS APOCRYPHA. The Introduction to Kings is...
Really, arguments from silence to prove Jesus and the Apostles quoted Tobit as Holy Scripture.
How can anyone argue with that?
I guess Tobit belongs right up there with the Five Books of Moses.
Just quote the FIRST CHRISTIAN that quoted “Tobit” as “it is written” inspired by God...
Sure, like “Judith”, but that was not his question, was it.
He wanted to know what the FIRST CHRISTIANS thought of “Tobit”.
Feel free to quote something by the FIRST CHRISTIANS on “Tobit” if you think they had an opinion other than that NOT presented in Scripture. I would love to read it!
"Therefore, just as the Church also reads the books of Judith, Tobias, and the Maccabees, but does not receive them among the canonical Scriptures, so also one may read these two scrolls for the strengthening of the people, (but) not for confirming the authority of ecclesiastical dogmas." -Jerome
Jerome Introduction to Kings
“This prologue to the Scriptures may be appropriate as a helmeted introduction to all the books which we turn from Hebrew into Latin, so we may be able to know whatever is outside of these is set aside among the apocrypha. Therefore, Wisdom, which is commonly...
Jesus never quoted Tobit as Scripture.
The Apostles are never recorded quoting Tobit as scripture.
Paul never mentions Tobit in any of his letters.
Luke makes no reference to Tobit in Acts.
So the very first Christians do not appear to have thought of Tobit at all.
(Does that help?)
Actually, a good question would be “what about Angels (Angeloi) in the Apocryphal books?”
Do any of them have wings?
Here is a chance for our resident TOBIT fans to jump in.
As I pondered the question of JUSTICE, I long ago found myself humbled and more than content to leave the matter in God’s hands. I am grateful that I do not need to decide what is Just; I can trust in God’s GOODNESS and give thanks for His mercy.
The Martyrs in Revelation 6:9 were not looking...
Is there no room for JUSTICE?
When I was 8 years old I had a friend at school that was sexually assaulted by his mother’s boyfriend. I watched the light in his eyes go out. At 8 years old I discovered the philosophical question known as ”the problem of evil” and I learned that it was possible...
The age began in Genesis 1 when God started time moving forward and by Genesis 3 death had entered the picture. God promised to fis what was broken and redeem what was lost. There will be an end to the age of men and sin and death. It will be followed by a new age of God and resurrection and...
[John 11:20-27 NKJV]
20 Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met Him, but Mary was sitting in the house. 21 Now Martha said to Jesus, "Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died. 22 "But even now I know that whatever You ask of God, God will give...
Planets are also called “wandering stars” by ancient astronomers that observed that most start remained in the same relative position to all other stars (the whole constellation thing), however the planets changed position relative to the field of stars … moving gradually westward, coming to a...
Dude, you need to stop for a moment and reread Origen’s post and start arguing what he actually said.
Origen said Cherub HAVE WINGS, so continuing to repeat that Cherub have wings misses the point.
Origen said the word for “Angel” in the Bible is “malachim\angeloi” (probably the Hebrew/Greek...
If we ban people from politics for holding (or not holding) certain beliefs, then politics would be filled with individuals skilled at deception and lying … oh, wait … we have that already because we want politicians that will “tickle our ears” rather than tell us hard, unpleasant truths.
So...
Then you will need to quote them in support of any “debate thesis” that Tobit belongs in the Bible as canonical scripture. One cannot simply argue that it has been included in “every” Bible prior to 1500 when the Vulgate Bibles (the official Bible of the Church from the 400’s until the...
