    The Zoroastrians use the Gathas and some use the Venidad as well; Hindus have the Bahagavad Gita, the Ramayana and the Upanishads; Confucians, the Analects; Taoists, the Tao te Ching; Muslims the Qur'an and there are myriads of others as well.

    Speaking as an Old Catholic Priest, I would not have had a problem with a lay person reading a gospel scripture even if it had been a funeral Mass.
