So... What are YOU doing? - Part 2

First...I just love the new avatar, Lämmy! I like crispy shoestring fries the best. The best ones are when the potato farmers in the area are harvesting, and one gent I've known since my days on the cattle ranch let's me stop by his farm and grab a bagful of fresh outta the ground...

    NASA and Facebook tricked you

I am curious to know, and I don't want to continue being dismissive, how you would explain the mechanism by which the Sun and Moon, presumably much smaller and more proximal than given by scientific consensus, travel about their cyclic trajectories above the proposed Earth plane? Newton's...

I just knew Crepuscular rays would be brought up next. ;) I would actually rather address certain things you bring up, that come from your mind.

It's not so much the size of the sun, but its great distance that causes the rays of light to be virtually parallel within the scope of the Earth's diameter, a result of basic trigonometry. By the Law Of Cosines, we find that the angle subtended by two rays, each striking opposite ends of the...

    Tennesee

I have family members in that area (my sister, her husband and their 4 children ages 17-28), and they are all okay and we appreciate your prayers. :) Oh, and a good rain is in their forecast for this evening too.

So... What are YOU doing? - Part 2

LOL! I rarely drink and so I usually get lit up like the 4th of July when I do. I'm always afraid to read what I posted the next day, but my post last night in this thread was the worst of it, so it wasn't too bad. :o

So... What are YOU doing? - Part 2

I'm drinking copious amounts of "high octane" rum...but maintaining my footing in standard/logical science as I will until my brain is no longer functioning. While I might be grinning stupidly with a ciggy butt hanging from my mouth, I still have not lost my sense of knowledge. What...what...

    Evaluate The Following Limit

My solution: We are given to evaluate: $\displaystyle L=\lim_{n\to\infty}\left(\sqrt{n^2+n}-\sqrt[3]{n^3+n^2}\right)$ This has the indeterminate form $\infty-\infty$, so let's rewrite the expression: $\displaystyle \sqrt{n^2+n}-\sqrt[3]{n^3+n^2}\cdot\frac{\dfrac{1}{n}}{\dfrac{1}{n}}=...

Our eyes cannot see in such images the tiny relative differences involved. If you think the "oblateness" of the Earth should be noticeable in a photo of the Earth taken from space, then you are grossly exaggerating how much you think there is said to be.

    NASA and Facebook tricked you

Your senses are likely not acute enough to notice an approximate change in weight of about 0.5% (more at the poles by the way). Dizziness is caused by angular speed...if you got on a merry-go-round rotating at 1 revolution per day, even if it has a radius equal to that of the Earth, do you think...

Is this the theory that the Flat Earth Society has been put into place by the conspirators to make the entire flat Earth model look kooky?

    NASA and Facebook tricked you

If you apply some simple physics to this issue, you find that the Earth would have to rotate almost 20 times faster than it does in order for the magnitude of the centripetal acceleration at the equator to be equal to that of gravity.

    NASA and Facebook tricked you

On a cosmological scale the Earth can be approximated as a sphere. Indeed, if you consider the deepest depths of the Mariana Trench, and the heights of Everest, we are only looking at ~20km of vertical variation on a planet with a radius of 6371km. That's pretty smooth. However, as well as this...

    NASA and Facebook tricked you

If I'm not mistaken, the flat Earth model says that the disk we live on is accelerating through space at about 9.8 m/s2, thereby giving the illusion of gravity. We would therefore be traveling at nearly 150 times the speed of light by now.
