Does anyone else have a favorite science formula or equation? I can't be the only one :boggled:

Density equals mass per volume units has stuck in my mind since high school physics. In the 80s there was a great Nike (?) commercial that displayed f=ma and my class thought it was the coolest thing!

E=mc[SUP]2[/SUP] is a pretty iconic one.

Some that I quite liked related to things like the volume of a cone, which IIRC was 1/3 πr[SUP]2[/SUP]h, and the volume of a sphere which is 4/3 πr[SUP]3[/SUP]

Interestingly you can derive the volume of a solid from the surface area of the solid, and vice versa.

For example if you take the volume of a sphere - V = 4/3 πr[SUP]3[/SUP] and differentiate it you see dV/dr = 4πr[SUP]2[/SUP], which is the surface area of a sphere.

Nope. If I could remember it I'd go with 2 sets of equations that were written in a toilet stall in the first floor of the physics building.

Maxwell said:

{Insert Maxwells equations here}

And there was light.

The Einstein said:

{Insert the relativistic equivalent}

And the darkness returned.

One of my favorites is e^(πi) + 1 = 0.

It includes Euler's number e, π, the imaginary i, unity, and zero...all in one equation. :)

Wait a minute now...doesn't that translate to "Can't we all just get along?" LOL

Another favorite of mine is:

(1/2)[sup]2[/sup] + (1/3)[sup]2[/sup] + (1/4)[sup]2[/sup] + ... = π[sup]2[/sup]/6
