That was an interesting video. Of course I disagree when he said that we don't need ice cream. Who's he kidding? ;)

Were the eyes of the people opened when Western Europe began to be so extravagant but didn't realize that in history there were other previous civilizations that had frivolous items like decorated mirrors and combs?

Detachment from wants of self seems quite key to believers or at least it seems like it should be based on the teachings of the Christ

Yes, what you say about detachment from self-wants being key to following Christ appears to be true yet those most engaged in such activities live lives of poverty, chastity, and obedience so the philosopher may be right when he says that pursuing spiritual things and avoiding frippery leads to societal poverty. He seems to want a middle way. I imagine his middle way would not be Christianity.

Generally, the middle way refers to Buddhism. However; you would be hard pressed to find a Buddhist who denies the Christ or Jesus. You would be equally hard pressed to find one who understands GOD the way most Christians do.

There are sects and divisions among all people. Some of these are wrong and far from the narrow path however.

Moderation isn't extremism is all.

Buddhists don't generally deny GOD or the Spirit of GOD, or the fact that it can and does indwell particular Holy(different) people.

To be honest; I haven't studied Buddhism much comparatively.

peace

Sorry if I got off topic.

I don't deny what you said about worldly poverty; it comes with not wanting it to some extent.

Life recieves sustenance, and ultimately, not from the hands of man, but the breath and Light/ Fire of GOD.

Fire in this sense is referring to the Spirit, and not punishment, or hell, or evil, or void.

Perhaps this is why there are few that find the narrow path. At least inthis country it would be hard to find those who truly dont ry to get things and are at least partly in the world. Another reason I feel that few will actually make it among others. We are to obey and come into conformity with Christ and those who dont? Remember that satan disobeyed and was kicked out of heaven for rebellion it is hard to believe that God would allow that back in from anyone

A royal living for the body of the world as oppossed to royal living to the body of Christ. The difference is in what is constituted as riches.

What was being considered is how to integrate them both by encompassing higher learning with advancement of monetary gain. The answer to the problem wasn't given that I could see.

Grace has been given to the world in forms of social graces, hospitals and plenty of other forms that have advanced mankind tremendously. Those things have been brought in from the dedication to higher thought to help those in need. Materialism just mass produces cookie cutter consumers.

The riches of each one far exceeds the other and it's our choice as to what we want from life. Life is about choices is it not ...
