What is your ancestry like? Do you have any funny stories from family members who lived a long time ago? Or is there something interesting about your ancestors?

I'm mostly German on both sides of my family. My great-great-great grandfather founded a town so I think that's pretty cool :)

Uhmm ... I'm Canadian. God save the Queen, etc. :ewink:

Did you move there in the last few weeks and become a citizen, or have you lived there for a while?

I met my birth mother when I was around 42 years old for the first time, that I can remember anyway, the first time when I was born. She told me that we are from Wales. I don't know much about my birth father except his name sounds German. He was married to someone else and had an affair with my birth mother and never really acknowledged me as his. I never met him. By the time I found out about him he had been dead many years.

Are you still in touch with your birth mother?

I haven't talked to her in a number of years. After our initial visit I just felt too uncomfortable to keep talking with her.

Did you ask her about any other relatives? Are you curious about siblings/cousins?

JOSIAH is a Hebrew name. It means "fire of the Lord". It is currently the 73rd. most popular male name in the USA (51st for newborns) but it use to be far more common. I like the name (and virtually memorized the story of Josiah in the Old Testament as a kid) but it has one big drawback: there's no short form of it (and guys almost INSIST on shortening names to one syllable). As a kid, I was often called "Joe" (still happens sometimes) which is of course short for Joseph, not Josiah. That and some can't spell it.... In spite of the Hebrew name, I am 0% Hebrew. Hebrew names are not popular in Germany or Denmark (my heritage) but my parents were born here in the USA and named all of us kids for good biblical characters that start with "J" (cute, huh? I never thought so).

. "The Josiah Dot" famous throughout the entire internet

My heritage is Dutch and German.

My given name does not describe me at all and I'm not particularly fond of it. However, I can think of much worse.

My first alternate on the other board was Nekoda - which is an ancient Hebrew name for the head of a family of temple servants. It means "painted" or "marked" or "distinguished". I believe this fits me better for various reasons, not only because I consider myself an independent thinker, but some of my habits/ways are considered strange to some in the culture I live in and I frankly don't care.

Had I had a choice in naming myself, it definitely would have been on the short list.

I have a half brother and a half sister. Different fathers. I was curious about health history when I searched for my birth parents. My birth father died in 1983 so I never got a chance to talk to him.
