It's another hot August night here on the First Coast. We are right at the dew point of 78° F. and the frogs are singing away because of the recent rains. We are about 3 weeks away from the peak of the hurricane season, and hurricane Danny, although weakening, may head this way and you never know whether it may regain strength once over open water again.

What's it like to be in a hurricane (in a building of course)?

I've lived here for more than 30 years and have yet to experience a direct hit from a hurricane. The closest was "Frances" about 11 years ago, and while I got lots of wind and rain, the real damage was some 150 miles to the south of me. My power was out for about 2 weeks though.

N.W. Florida here. The last few weeks have been 100 f. or very close to it., with high humidity. Its like a rain forest. Cools off to the mid 70's overnight. Little rain and when it does rain, its just for 1 hour or less. Winter on the other hand is so delightful with highs of 55-70 f. , plenty of sunshine, and little rain . With me, its not so much the extreme hot weather...but snakes that are everywhere ; I once saw a 7' thick Rattlesnake that a city worker was holding up on a stick just a few blocks from where I dwell.
