God has spoken. He first spoke The Word [SUP](see John 1:1)[/SUP]. Later he spoke our cosmos into existence [SUP](see Genesis 1:1)[/SUP]. And later still he spoke to us in his Son [SUP](see Hebrews 1:2)[/SUP]. So, is the Word of God a book?

A nit pick ... but God did not speak the Word in John 1:1, it was eternally existing. A more literal, but clumsy English translation might be "Before the beginning of the beginning, the Word existed."

Still, you ask a good question. Let me get back to you on that.
For now, it is not JUST a book.

Jesus said "it is written" and defeated satan. So the Word is written in a book.

Some words are written in the holy scriptures. Do you believe that absolutely everything that God wants people to know is written in there?

I don't know the answer to your question. I believe everything written in the scriptures is God's Word. I believe He is speaking and that we can hear His voice. I believe that the written Word does not contradict itself. And I believe learning the written Word teaches us how to recognize His voice.

Romans 15:4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

Some passages in the holy scriptures are the record of words spoken by God's enemies and some enemies of God's people also have their words recorded in the scriptures. Surely those words are not God's Word, right?

For our learning God's Word tells us what the enemy says.

For our benefit yes, the holy scriptures relate stories that include the expressions of the wicked.

The written Word of God, the inscripturated word - yup, that's words. Obviously, just referring to "The Word of God" could mean other things, as everyone knows.

Doesn't the enemy twist God's Word so that the meaning isn't what God intended and points us away from God's saving grace...namely the Savior.

The title of this thread meals God speaks (or God has spoken). Speaking for human beings means making sounds that are coherent speech. God speaks differently does he not? Sometimes there is a sound in the air. In the holy scriptures that is less common that God speaking with no words that can be heard as sounds in the air. How does God speak when there's no sounds in the air?
